CHBC's Stay at Highland Tournament Comes To End

HIGHLAND -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Higih School picked up a second defeat and saw its stay at the 28th  Annual Highland Girls Basketball Tournament come to an end Monday evening.

CHBC fell to Belleville Althoff 60-26. Belleville Althoff jumped out to a 28-5 opening quarter lead. Both teams played to a 6-6 tie in the second quarter. Althoff came back with a 17-5 third period run.

Kasswasser led the winners with 14 points. CHBC was led by Riley with eight points.

In other games Monday, Nokomis edged Hillsboro 49-48 in consolation bracket action. Belleville Althoff and Nokomis square off at 5 p.m. Thursday. In winner bracket play, Breese Central defeated Salem 51-27 and Breese Mater Dei downed Nashville 38-28. Mater Dei and Central will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Teutopolis will be back in action in winner bracket play Wednesday at 7. The tournament schedule has been moved back a day.
