Newton, Marshall, Olney, Flora Advance in LIC Girls Tourney

FLORA -- Newton, Marshall, Olney and Flora picked up victories Saturday in the Little Illini Conference Girls Basketball Tournament.

Newton edged Palestine-Hutsonville 55-50. The two squads were tied after one quarter before Palestine/Hutsonville shot ahead 22-14. The Eagles started a comeback in the third quarter with a 16-11 run to pull within 33-30 then outscored Palestine/Hutsonville 25-17 to pul out the victory.

Richards scored 21 for the winners as Newton improved to 9-9. The Eagles will now face top-seeded Marshall at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Marshall pounded Red Hill (Bridgeport) 62-15 in the opening contest Saturday. Olney was a 59-23 winner while Flora downed Casey-Westfield 65-22.

Olney and Flora will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
