No. 1 Arizona Routs ASU

(Tucson, AZ) -- Nick Johnson led seven players in double-figures with 17 points as top-ranked Arizona cruised to a 91-68 win over rival Arizona State at the McKale Center. The Wildcats improved to 17-0 on the season. Jahii Carson scored 20 points to pace the Sun Devils, who fell to 13-5 and 2-3 in the Pac-12. ASU hosts Utah next Thursday.


No. 25 UCLA Downs No. 22 Colorado

(Boulder, CO) --  Jordan Adams had 14 points with 13 rebounds as 25th-ranked UCLA handed number-22 Colorado a 69-56 loss at the Coors Events Center in Boulder. Norman Powell added a team-high 19 points while David Wear chipped in with 11 points and seven boards  The Bruins improved to 14-3 with a 3-1 Pac-12 mark. Askia Booker netted 21 points for the Buffaloes while Josh Scott added 19 points and nine boards in defeat. CU fell to 14-4 and is now 3-2 in the conference.


Minnesota Upsets #9 Ohio State

(Minneapolis, MN) -- Elliott Eliason racked up 12 points and 13 rebounds as Minnesota upset ninth-ranked Ohio State 63-53 at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.  Deandre Mathieu scored 13 points and Andre Hollins had 10 points and six boards for the Golden Gophers, who improved to 14-4 on the season and 3-2 in the Big Ten. LaQuinton Ross scored a game-high 22 points for the Buckeyes, who slipped to 15-3 and 2-3. Sam Thompson tallied 12 points off the pine in defeat.


Houston Falls To Louisville

(Louisville, KY) -- TaShawn Thomas totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Houston Cougars fell 91-52 to the Cardinals in Louisville. Jherrod Stiggers chipped in with 14 points off the bench for Houston, which dropped to 10-7 on the year and 2-2 in the American Athletic Conference. The Cougars clash with Rutgers Sunday.


Tigers Drop Loss To UConn

(Memphis, TN) -- Michael Dixon Junior tallied 16 points to pace the Tigers in an 83-73 setback to UConn last night at the FedExForum. Austin Nichols chipped in with 13 points and five rebounds for Memphis, which slipped to 12-4 and 3-2 in the American Athletic Conference. The Tigers host LeMoyne-Owen College on Saturday.


Gonzaga Tops Pepperdine

(Malibu, CA) -- Sam Dower scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Gonzaga Bulldogs to a 70-53 win over Pepperdine. The team shot 45-percent from the floor to give the No. 24 Zags their fourth victory in five games. Gonzaga improved to 15-3. They Bulldogs return to the court Saturday afternoon at Loyola Marymount.

 

Murray State Downs EIU

CHARLESTON, Ill.  – Murray State remained undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference action on Thursday night, defeating the Panther men’s basketball team, 70-66, inside Lantz Arena. EIU falls to 5-12 (2-4 OVC) while the Racers improve to 10-7 (5-0 OVC).

Trailing 48-47 with 10:26 left in the contest, the Racers took their first lead of the game on back-to-back free throws by Cameron Payne. Murray State led by as many as six (54-48) with 8:43 on the clock before the Panthers used an 11-3 run to regain the lead, 59-57, with just under five minutes remaining in the contest.

The Racers went 2-for-5 from the floor down the stretch and 8-for-10 from the foul line to hold off the Panthers. EIU was tied with Murray State, 59-59, with 3:45 remaining in regulation before committing their only two turnovers of the half and going 3-for-7 from the field to end the game. The final 10 minutes of the contest had five lead changes and three ties.


SIUE Seals Win Over Austin Peay

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Keaton Jackson's defensive rebound and subsequent pair of free throws with five seconds left completed a 13-1 run by SIUE men's basketball and sealed a 71-67 Ohio Valley Conference victory over visiting Austin Peay Thursday at Vadalabene Center.

The win moves the Cougars to 2-3 in OVC play and 5-13 overall. Austin Peay dropped to 8-10 and 2-2 in the OVC.

"I thought our guys did an excellent job of executing down the stretch," SIUE Head Coach Lennox Forrester said. "We were fortunate to get some stops off steals and turnovers, and we did a good job capitalizing off that. Our execution was great on both ends of the floor."

Edwardsville native Will Triggs gave the Governors their largest lead of the night at eight points with a layup that made it 66-58 with 2:27 to play. Maurice Wiltz connected on a three-pointer for SIUE with 2:11 left to bring the Cougars within five points at 66-61.

 

Illinois Meets MSU Saturday

(Champaign, IL) -- Illinois looks to pull an upset tomorrow when it hosts fourth-ranked Michigan State at the State Farm Center. The Fighting Illini are 13-5 with a 2-3 Big Ten mark this year. The Spartans are 5-0 in conference with a 16-1 overall mark. Saturday's tip is set for 7:00.


College Basketball Preview

Saturday, Northwestern heads to Indiana to face the Hoosiers in Big Ten action while DePaul travels to play Villanova in a Big East battle. Northern Illinois will host Ohio Saturday while Notre Dame welcomes Virginia Tech Sunday.
