Red Hill, Palestine/Hutsonville Open LIC Girls Tourney With Wins

Red Hill (Bridgeport) and Palestine/Hutsonville picked up opening round wins in the Little Illini Conference Girls Basketball Tournament Wednesday at Flora High School.

Red Hill defeated Oblong 36-21. Red Hill led 25-12 at halftime. Western tallied 12 for the winners. Oblong was led by Lockhart with six.

In the second contest, Palestine/Hutsonville downed Cumberland 52-28. The winners took a 32-13 halftime lead and never looked back. Nehls scored 17 for the winners. Cumberland was led by Jackson with 13.

The tournament continues tonight with Lawrenceville taking on Robinson at 6 p.m. followed by Casey-Westfield against Edwards County (Albion) at 7:30. Red Hill advances to face Marshall Saturday at 3 p.m. followed by Palestine/Hutsonville against Newton at 4:30 and Olney taking on the Lawrenceville/Robinson winner at 6.
