St. Anthony, Mattoon Split F/S Boys Victories

Effingham St. Anthony hosted Mattoon in boys freshman/sophomore basketball play. In the freshman game, Mattoon claimed a 60-49 victory.

The Bulldogs held 13-8 opening quarter and a 33-27 halftime leads. Mattoon came back with a 21-8 third quarter run and outdistanced the Bulldogs for the win. Four players hit double figures for the Green Wave, Poorman with 16, R. Prior with 16, Johnson with 11 and Jeffries with 10.

St. Anthony was led by Walk with 14 and Dust with 13.

In sophomore action, St. Anthony won 47-38. The Bulldogs flew out to a 23-9 opening quarter lead. Hartke tallied 13 and Jeff Niebrugge scored 12.
