Elks Hoop Shoot Winners Set For District

Three boys and three girls, ages 8-13 years old, won first round competition in the Elks’ “Hoop Shoot” free throw contest held recently at Effingham High School and have been named local Effingham Elks “Hoop Shoot” champions.

The first three places were awarded trophies in each age category: ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. The six champions advance to the East Central District Hoop Shoot Contest at Pana High School Sunday, January 19 at 1 p.m.

Luke Ungrund won the 12-13 year old division with 23 of 25 but will not be participating. Donovan Delaney of Altamont hit 20 of 25 and will substitute for Ungrund at Pana.

Participating for the girls in the 12-13 year old division is Natalie Carie (Effingham Sacred Heart). Participating in the 10-11 year old division are Jarett Tharp (Newton) and Hope Bueker (Sigel). Participating in the 8-9 year old division are Austin Wittenborg (Stewardson-Strasburg) and Emily Konkel (Teutopolis).
