Newton Comes From Behind to Edge Casey-Westfield; Other Friday Basketball Scores

The Casey-Westfield Warriors outscored the Newton Eagles 19-9 in the first quarter, but the Eagles came back to post a two-point win over the Warriors Friday, 62-60.

Newton outscored Casey-Westfield 15-10 in the second quarter to pull within 29-24 at halftime and had closed to within two points, 43-41 after three periods.  Luke Stone scored a late bucket to give the Eagles the two-point win as Newton outscored the Warriors 21-17 in the final stanza.  

Casey-Westfield at one point held a 14-point lead and Newton came back to lead by seven in the final quarter before sealing the deal on Stone's basket with less than 20 seconds remaining.

Stone led Newton with 18 points while Brock Mammoser added 14 points and Luke Huston 10.  Also for Newton: Gunner Pickens nine, Corey Workman six, Caleb Chesnut three and Mitch Jansen two.

Newton improved to 13-1 on the season.
