Assignments Released For Boys Basketball Regionals

Assignments have been released for the boys basketball regionals this season. Twelve area teams will be competing in Class 1A regionals while two teams are in 2A and Effingham takes part in 3A action.

CLASS 1A

The majority of local teams will be competing in either the Cumberland Regional or the Nokomis Regional this season.

Entered in the Cumberland Regional are Neoga, Stewardson-Strasburg, Cumberland and Windsor along with Hutsonville/Palestine and Martinsville.

Entered in the Nokomis Regional are Effingham St. Anthony, Altamont, Beecher City, Cowden-Herrick and St. Elmo/Brownstown along with Nokomis and Ramsey.

South Central will compete in the Mulberry Grove Regional with the host squad and Odin, Patoka, Sandoval, Wayne City and Woodlawn.

North Clay (Louisville) will be in the Edwards County (Albion) Regional along with the host squad, Red Hill (Bridgeport), Cisne, Clay City, Grayville and Oblong.

The winners from the Cumberland, Nokomis, Mulberry Grove and Edwards County regionals will advance to the Red Hill Sectional. The sectional winner then heads to the Carbondale (SIU) Super-Sectional along with the winner from the Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Sectional which will include winners from the Elizabethtown (Hardin County), Mounds (Meridian), Christopher and Goreville regionals.

CLASS 2A

The lone area schools competing in Class 2A are Teutopolis and Newton. Both teams will be in the field at the Robinson Regional along with Casey-Westfield, Marshall and host Robinson.

The winner advances to the Vandalia Sectional along with winners from the Carlinville, Breese Mater Dei and East Alton-Wood River regionals.

The sectional winner advances to the Carbondale (SIU) Super-Sectional along with the winner of the DuQuoin Sectional that includes winners from Mount Carmel, Harrisburg, Anna-Jonesboro and Nashville regionals.

CLASS 3A

Effingham will be competing in the Salem Regional along with Centralia, Mascoutah, Olney and Salem. The winner advances to the Highland Sectional to take on the winner of the Mattoon Sectional.

Competitors in the Mattoon Sectional include winners from the Springfield Southeast, Lincoln, Taylorville and Champaign Central regionals.

The sectional winners will compete in the Springfield (Prairie Capitol Convention Center) Super-Sectional.
