VIDEO: Wooden Shoes Win First-Ever Effingham/Teutopolis Christmas Classic

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes are the champions of the first-ever Effingham/Teutopolis Christmas Classic.  The Shoes posted a 52-37 win over the Effingham Hearts in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

The game was also videotaped.  Watch for a replay on the website soon and DVD copies will be available soon for purchase.

The contest was close for the first three quarters.  Teutopolis led 13-11 after one quarter, 24-20 at halftime, and 34-29 after three quarters.  

The Shoes were finally able to create some daylight in the final period, though, outscoring the Hearts 18-8 in the quarter to post the 15-point win.

Teutopolis made 43% of its shots, hitting on 15 of 35 including five of eight on three-point tries. The Shoes were 17 of 25 from the line, committed just 10 turnovers and pulled down 29 rebounds.

Effingham hit on just under 39% of its shots, 14 of 36, including two of nine from three-point range.  The Hearts had an awful time at the foul line, making just seven of 16 attempts. Effingham turned the ball over just 10 times, but had just 18 rebounds.  

Reed Hardiek followed up a 29-point performance earlier in the day with 18 points Saturday night to lead the Wooden Shoes, making six of 11 shots including four three-pointers.  Brett Mette and Bobby Wenthe each added 10 points for the Shoes, now 9-2 on the season due to a 3-0 performance in the tournament.  Also for Teutopolis: Cody Will seven, Michael Drees, Ryan Sandschafer and Justin Kenter two each, and Andy Borries one point.

Isaac Foreman was able to shake loose for 16 points to lead Effingham, making seven of 10 shots. Also for the Hearts: Leighton Lark five points, Kennan Mahaffey, Phil Knight and Michael Carie four points apiece, Kevin Daugherty three, and Grant Wolfe one point.

Effingham finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.  The Hearts are 7-3 on the seasonm with two of those losses to the Wooden Shoes.  Teutopolis had won 44-41 on December 17.

Also Saturday night, Mattoon won the fifth place game over Charleston 82-42 and Mt. Vernon won the third place defeating Chicago Al Raby 70-63.

The All-Tournament Team included Cody Will and Reed Hardiek of Teutopolis, Leighton Lark and Kevin Daugherty of Effingham, Braden Fitzjarrels and Shakari Hawkins of Mt. Vernon and Tanner Scott of Mattoon.
