The St. Anthony Bulldogs scored as many points in the fourth quarter as they did in the first three quarters combined and pulled away to defeat the Dieterich Movin Maroons 36-26 in boys high school basketball Friday night.  The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.

Neither team could get much going offensively over the first three quarters.  Dieterich led 7-6 after one quarter and led 14-12 at halftime.  St. Anthony got a three-point basket from Neil Williams late in the third quarter...the Bulldogs' only basket of the period...and the game was tied 18-18 heading into the fourth quarter.

St. Anthony got a couple of shots to fall early in the final stanza and rolled on from there, hitting all six of their two-point attempts in the period as well as six of eight from the free throw line and outpointed Dieterich 18-8 in the quarter to post the 10-point win.  Those six baskets were one more than the Bulldogs had totaled through the first three periods.

St. Anthony made 11 of 35 shots for the game, including one of seven from three-point range but made 13 of 16 foul shots and turned the ball over just eight times including just once in the fourth quarter.  The Bulldogs grabbed 21 rebounds.

Dieterich made just eight of 33 shots for 24%, hit six of 10 from the line, committed 16 turnovers and also pulled down 21 rebounds.  Dieterich was four of 15 on three-point attempts.

Williams led St. Anthony with 12 points.  John Goeckner scored nine points, Alex Hoelscher seven points...all in the fourth quarter...Andrew Gardewine scored four points, and Zach Gardewine and Eric Gurtner had two points apiece.

Devin Aherin led Dieterich with 10 points and six blocked shots.  Alex Bohnhoff and Tanner Traub each scored six points, Nick Feldhake three and Travis Niemerg one point.

St. Anthony improved to 5-3 on the season with their fourth straight win.  Dieterich is now also 5-3 on the season.

St. Anthony won the JV game 60-32.  Nick Grunloh scored 12 points while four other players had eight points for the Bulldogs.  Lance Niemerg led Dieterich with 11 points.

Both teams are idle until their first round Christmas tournament appearances...Dieterich at their own tournament and St. Anthony at Vandalia...both on Thursday.
