The St. Anthony Bulldogs broke open a close game with a 20-5 run in the fourth quarter to defeat the St. Elmo/Brownstown Eagles 48-29 Friday night.

The contest was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.

The game was close for most of the contest.  St. Anthony shot well early but SEB made a charge at the end of the first quarter to pull within 12-11 and then tied the game early in the second period.

St. Elmo/Brownstown couldn't score in the second period, taking just two shots from the field and three at the foul line and was outscored 10-3 in the quarter, allowing St. Anthony to get up by as many as 10 points and lead 22-14 at halftime.

SEB, though, opened the second half well and pulled within four points several times, outscoring the Bulldogs 10-6 in the third quarter and were down just 28-24 after three quarters.

However, St. Anthony played a stellar fourth quarter, making seven of 11 shots from the field and six of six from the foul line while limiting their turnovers and controlling the boards.  Those items allowed the big spread in fourth quarter scoring and the 19-point win for St. Anthony.

The Bulldogs made 51% of their shots from the field, 18 of 35 and made all eight of their foul shots.  SEB made just 33% of their shots, 10 of 30 and six of eight foul shots.  St. Anthony outrebounded the Eagles 26-16 on the night.  Each team made four three-pointers, SEB in 17 attempts and St. Anthony in 11 tries.

Zach Gardewine with 11 points and John Goeckner with 10 points led St. Anthony in scoring.

Also for the Bulldogs: Neil Williams eight, Alex Hoelscher six, Derek Rios five, Andrew Gardewine four, and Matt Gibson and Frank Jansen two points each.

Jacob Behrends and Levi Maxey each scored 11 points for SEB and Malachi Maxey scored five points.

Also for the Eagles: Cole Smithson and Eric Neeley one point each.

St. Anthony is over .500 at 4-3 on the season, while SEB is now 3-2 on the campaign.

St. Anthony won the JV game 57-33.  Derek Rios, Kyle Hartke and Jeff Niebrugge each scored 11 points for St. Anthony.
