Sigel St. Michael, Jasper County Advance To Girls Jr. High State Tourneys

Sigel St. Michael and Jasper County will both be competing in state girls basketball tournaments Saturday after picking up sectional championship wins Wednesday evening.

Class 1A Pana Sacred Heart Sectional

Sigel St. Michael handed host Pana Sacred Heart a loss in its own sectional championship. The Sharpshooters claimed the 36-20 victory in overtime.

St. Michael now travels to Clinton Junior High School Saturday in the Class 1A State Tournament to play at 2:30 p.m. St. Michael  is now 20-3 on the season and will face Morton Blessed Sacrament. If they win, they will play at 6:30 p.m.

 

Class 3A Cumberland Sectional

Jasper County claimed the win of this sectional championship Wednesday by downing Teutopolis 32-25.

Jasper County was led by Frohning with 14 points. T-town was led by Marianna Hemmen with 11. Jasper County took a 17-13 halftime lead and outscored T-town 15-12 in the second half. T-town ended the season at 12-13.

Jasper County advances to the Class 3A State Tournament at Warrensburg-Latham High School Saturday to face Eurkea (22-2) at 2:30 p.m. Jasper County sports a 22-2 record.

Class 2A South Central Regional

Oblong was the winner of the regional championship over Brownstown/St. Elmo Wednesday evening.

Oblong claimed the victory 34-28. Oblong now advances to the Stewardson-Strasburg Sectional today at 4:30 against Nokomis. The winner advances to the Class 2A State Tournament Saturday at Metamora Grade School to face Paris Crestwood at 2:30 p.m.
