SULLIVAN -- Effingham St. Anthony High School claimed a 49-43 non-conference boys basketball victory over Sullivan Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead as John Goeckner connected on four free throws. Nick Frerichs led the Redskins with seven points. The two teams played to a 7-7 tie in the second quarter and the Bulldogs held an 18-17 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Sullivan came back with an 11-10 edge to knot the score at 28-28 going into the final quarter. St. Anthony then had a 21-15 fourth quarter run to pull out the victory. Goeckner nailed three baskets and three free throws for nine points. Neil Williams connected on a three pointer and a free throw.

Goeckner finished with 15 points and Alex Hoelscher 13 for the winners. Sullivan was led by Frerichs with 10 and Derrek Stain with 15.

Altamont claimed a non-conference win over Cumberland behind Justin McGinnis' 17 points and Jackman Griffin's 10 points.

The Indians edged out to a 14-11 opening quarter lead then took off with a 19-7 second period run. The third quarter belonged to the Indians as well with a 17-4 run.

Caleb Brumleve tallied 12 points for Cumberland.

Beecher City's Brady Barnes scored 21 points and pulled down 16 rebounds in a 49-47 victory over Ramsey.

The Eagles held an 11-9 opening quarter lead and led 25-16 at halftime. Ramsey then mounted a second half comeback, outscoring Beecher City 31-24 but fell a basket short.

Also in double figures for Beecher City was Austin Rexroad with 11.

Neoga came calling and claimed a 67-31 win over homestanding Cowden-Herrick Tuesday evening.

Neoga stepped out to a 22-7 opening quarter lead and led 41-16 at halftime. J. Baker tallied 21 while Krikie scored 12 and C. Kersey 10 for the winners.

Cowden-Herrick was led by Blackerby with 17 and N. Sandiford with 13.

St. Elmo/Brownstown edged South Central in National Trail Conference action Tuesday evening, 67-64.

St. Elmo/Brownstown held a 29-28 halftime lead. The Cougars came back with a 15-7 run to lead 43-36 going into the final period. St. Elmo/Brownstown then outscored the homestanders 10-7 to knot the score and send the game into overtime. The Eagles then claimed the win in the overtime period.

Maxey led the winners with 28 points while Behrends added 15 and  Maxey 13. South Central was led by Langley with 18, Hill with 15, Harmeier with 14 and Riley with 11.
