Dieterich, Altamont, Neoga Win In NTC Tourney Openers

BEECHER CITY -- Dieterich, Altamont and Neoga picked up opening round victories in the National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.

The tourney gets underway again Friday with South Central taking on Brownstown/St. Elmo at 5:30 p.m. followed by St. Anthony against Dieterich at 7 and Altamont facing Neoga at 8:30.

Dieterich 46, CHBC 31

Dieterich broke a 6-6 opening quarter tie with a 13-12 second period edge to lead 19-18 at halftime. The Movin' Maroons then had an 18-7 third period surge and claimed the win.

Three players hit double figures for the winners, Mallorie Vahliing with 15, Courtney Flach with 13 and Rachel Schmidt with 12.

CHBC was led by Ashley Miller with 12.

Altamont 45, South Central 21

Altamont defeated South Central 45-21. The Indians led 24-11 at halftime and outscored South Central 21-10 in the second half.

Madison Ohnesorge led the Indians with 18 points while Gabby Alwardt added 14. South Central was led by Abby Hahn with 11.

Neoga 60, Brownstown/St. Elmo 46

Neoga jumped out to a 22-10 opening quarter lead on Brownstown/St. Elmo and never looked back in a 60-46 win.

Three players hit double figures for the Indians. Jillian Deters led the way with 19 points while E.C. Thies added 17 and Madison Butler 14.

Brownstown/St. Elmo was led by Molly Hill with 16 and Bethany Oberlink with 15.
