Newton, Neoga, Dieterich Fall In Girls Basketball

CHARLESTON -- Newton High School took the early lead but Charleston came back strong to take a 70-43 girls basketball victory Monday evening.
The Eagles led 11-8 after the opening quarter but the Trojans had a 25-8 run to lead 33-19 at halftime. Sherwood led the Trojans with 22 points while three other players hit double digits, O'Dell with 14, Miller with 12 and Crowder with 10.
Netwon was led by Koebele with 12 and Cartright with 10. Cartright pulled down seven rebounds for the Eagles while Koebele had five and Kerner 3. The Eagles drop to 0-2.

At Dieterich
Sandoval came calling and captured a 52-43 win over Dieterich. Bethany Kunick tallied 25 points for the winners while Christonia Stadler chipped in with 11.
Dieterich was led by Courtney Flach with 18 and Mallorie Vahling with 16. Vahling led in rebounds with seven while Flach had six. Rachel Schmidt had five assists. Elizabeth Abbott and Vahling had six steals each. The Movin' Maroons drop to 1-2 on the season.

Marshall claimed a 54-47 non-conference victory over Neoga Monday evening. Marshall held a 29-17 halftime lead then had to hold off the Indians in the final quarter.
Marshall was led by Grooms with 22 and Thompson with 16. Neoga was led by E.C. Thies with 17 and Jillian Deters with 16. Deters had nine rebounds. Kelli Erickson had four steals.
Neoga drops to 1-2 on the season.
