Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School captured the championship of the Stewardson-Strasburg Boys Eighth-Grade Basketball Tournament Saturday.
In opening games, Greenville defeated Stew-Stras 39-33. Thies led Stew-Stras with 13 points. In the second game, St. Anthony downed Cumberland 50-22. Eleven players scored for the Bullpups with Walsh tallying nine, Nuxoll and Beesley eight each. Magee led Cumberland with 16.
In the third place contest, Stew-Stras beat Cumberland 47-38. Trailing 9-5 after the opening quarter, Stew-Stras came back with a 13-1 second period run. Kessler scored 13, Kramer 11 and Thies 11 for the winners. Magee led Cumberland with 17.
In the championship game, St. Anthony was a 39-32 winner over Greenville.Deters scored 10 for the winners while Utz and Beesley had nine each. The Bullpups are now 4-0 on the season.

At Summersville
Teutopolis competed in the Summersville Shootout Saturday and fell twice.
In seventh-grade play, T-town lost to Carbondale 30-28. Dawson Smith led the Wooden Booties with 17 points.
In the eighth-grade contest, Carbondale was a 56-31 winner. T-town was led by Eric Kramer with 10 points.

In action Friday, Altamont split victories with St. Elmo/Brownstown.
St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed the seventh-grade contest 26-15. Philpot tallied 11 and Aderman 10 for the winners. Altamont was led by Biggs with seven.
In eighth-grade play, Altamont was a 47-36 winner. Runge scored 18 and Davis 13 for the winners. Brown was the leader for St. Elmo/Brownstown with 19.
