Effingham St. Anthony and Altamont split victories in junior high girls basketball competition Monday.

The Bullpups claimed the seventh-grade contest 22-14 in the season opener. Richards tallied 10 for the winners.

In eighth-grade play, Altamont was a 43-9 winner with a 17-0 first quarter score. Altamont had three players in double figures, McHugh with 12, Stowe with 11 and Wolff with 11. Saba led St. Anthony with five.

At Effingham

Effingham picked up two victories over Sigel St. Michael. The Mustangs won the seventh-grade game 38-12.

Fearday and Weis had 11 points each for the Mustangs. S. Bueker led St. Michael with seven.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham won 46-27. Myers led Effingham with 18 points. Bueker led St. Michael with 11.

The games were the season openers for Effingham.

Effingham Sacred Heart split victories with Brownstown/St. Elmo. The Shamrocks won the seventh-grade contest 35-24. Carie tallied 14 points for the winners while Wilhour totaled 16 for the homestanders.

In the eighth-grade contest, Brownstown/St. Elmo was a 40-15 winner. Dana Shelton had 16 points.

Stewardson-Strasburg and Pana were both winners in action Monday. Stew-Stras claimed the seventh-grade contest 27-18. Davis tallied 12 for the winners.

In eighth-grade play, Pana was a 27-6 winner. Funneman led the winners with 12 points. The games were the season openers for Stew-Stras.
