(Washington, DC) -- The University of Louisville men's basketball team is being recognized in the nation's capital for winning the NCAA championship. Head coach Rick Pitino and the Cardinals were welcomed to the White House Tuesday by President Obama.

The team also spent time with wounded warriors during its trip to D.C. The Cardinals presented Obama with a customized Louisville slugger baseball bat as well as a custom U-of-L basketball jersey. Louisville overcame the loss of guard Kevin Ware to a gruesome broken leg in the Elite Eight to defeat Michigan 82-76 in the NCAA Tournament final in April. It was the Cardinals' third national championship and first since 1986.
