Spurs Steal Game One From Heat

(Miami, FL) -- Tony Parker banked in a circus shot in the closing moments that put the Spurs up four and they held on for a 92-88 win against the Heat in Game One of the NBA Finals at AmericaAirlines Arena. Parker finished with 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting and also had six assists. Parker says he had to improvise on his shot in the closing moments of the fourth.

After a miserable first quarter, Tim Duncan came on strong and posted 20 points, 14 rebounds and four assists. Heat forward LeBron James says they can't read too much into this loss.

The Spurs only turned the ball over four times as they jumped out to a 1-0 series lead. James tallied a triple-double with 18 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists in the loss. Dwyane Wade chipped in 17 points for the Heat, who will try to avoid falling behind 2-0 at home on Sunday night.

 

Karl Parting Ways With Nuggets

(Denver, CO)  --  George Karl will not return as head coach of the Nuggets.  The team will not bring him back for the final year of his contract despite being the reigning NBA Coach of the Year.  Sources say Karl wanted a contract extension, but Nuggets management was not prepared to negotiate a new deal.
