Effingham St. Anthony High School had a big evening, taking on Tuscola in girls basketball competition Monday.

The Bulldogs captured a 20-point victory over the Warriors, 57-37 and the victory improved the squad to 24-5 on the season. That gives the Bulldogs the best record for wins and losses in school history in a season.

Three players scored in double figures as St. Anthony took an 18-10 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Stacie Vonderheide led the way with 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Lucy Fearday added 14 points, 11 rebonds, two asssits and one steal while Nancy Ruholl had 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Anna Faber finished with seven points, three rebounds, five assitss and two steals.

The Bulldogs will finish out regular season play Thursday playing host to Newton in a game that will be heard on KJ Country 102.3. St. Anthony then travels to the North Clay (Louisville) Regional Monday and will face either Dieterich or South Central. Those two teams play Saturday.

At Neoga

Neoga High School continues to roll. The Indians played host to Teutopolis and sent the Wooden Shoes home with a 53-47 loss Monday.

T-town held a 14-10 opening quarter lead and led 32-23 at halftime. Neoga started a comeback with a 10-9 third period to pull within 41-33 going into the final quarter.

In that final period, Neoga mounted a furious rally, outscoring T-town 20-6 to pull out the win.

Sydney Richards led the way with eight field goals and six of six at the line for 23 points. Richards hit three field goals in the final quarter, one a three-pointer, and was two of two at the line for nine points. Allison Sampson also finished in double figures with 12.

Sydney Hakman scored seven points, five in that final quarter run. Neoga improves to 27-3 on the season and returns to action Thursday at Arcola.

A big highlight for the Wooden Shoes was Kaylee Niebrugge  scoring 24 points on nine field goals, two from three-point range, and four of eight at the line. Niebrugge needed only 15 points to go over the 1,000 point mark and has now scored 1,009. Also in double figures was Mollie Ruholl with 11.

Summer Wall led in rebounds with five. Niebrugge had two steals.

At Neoga

At Centralia

South Central edged Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran, 42-36 in a non-conference contest Monday evening.

CORL took a 10-5 opening quarter lead and led 17-13 at halftime.

South Central then mounted a comeback with a 14-9 third period to move ahead 27-26 going into the final quarter. From there, the Cougars continued on with a 15-10 run for the six-point win.

Taegan Webster and Brooklyn Garrett led the way for the winners with 14 points each. Webster hit seven field goasl while Garrett had four field goals and was six of eight at the line.

South Central connected on 12 of 15 from the free throw line, all but one of those points coming in the second half.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City improved to 17-10 on the season with a 64-38 win over Macon Meridian Monday.

CHBC stepped out to a 22-10 opening quarter lead and never looked back in this one.

Macee Rodman led three players in double figures with 21 points. She connected on six field goals, two from three-point range, and was seven of 13 at the line. Gracie Heckert added 18 points while Mady Wojcik tallied 14.

Heckert led in rebounds with 15 while Wojcik pulled down 11. Rodman led in steals with nine. Marissa Summers and Heckert had six assists each.

CHBC is back in action Wednesdasy hosting Brownstown/St. Elmo and will finish out regular season play Thursday hosting Ramsey.

Cumberland picked up a win over Argenta-Oreana, 68-24 Monday.

The Pirates led 16-3 after the first quarter and 37-11 at halftime.

Abbie Becker led the Pirates with 26 points on nine field goals that included six three-pointers. Jade Carr chipped in with 13.

The Pirates connected on 11 three-pointers in the contest.

Brownstown/St. Elmo broke a 10-10 opening quarter tie with a 19-8 second period and went on for an easy 63-30 win over Webber Township (Bluford) Monday.

Two players finished in double figure for the winners. Lexi Seabaugh tallied 19 points on seven field goals, one from three-point range, and four of nine at the line. Laney Baldrige tallied 12.

North Clay (Louisville) defeated Robinson by a 64-55 count Monday.

The Cardinals' Miah Ballard, a junior, scored her 1,000th career point.

North Clay is now 17-10 on the season and returns to action Wednesday against Lawrenceville.

 

At Altamont

Father McGivney came calling and picked up a 62-37 victory over Altamont Monday.

Father McGivney ran out to a 26-7 opening quarter lead and led 34-9 at halftime. Eleven players scored for the winning team led by Oller with 19.

Altamont was led by Skylie Klein with 13 points on four field goals, three from three-point range, and two of two at the line. Kaylee Lurkins chipped in with nine points.
