Neoga Advances To Title Game In NTC Girls Tourney

BEECHER CITY -- Neoga advanced to the championship game of the National Trail Conference Tournament with a victory Wednesday evening at Beecher City High School.

The Indians opened Wednesday evening's games with a 65-39 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.

Neoga stepped out to a 20-8 opening quarter lead and led 33-23 at halftime. Neoga then had a 23-7 third quarter surge to put the contest away.

Three players hit double figures for Neoga. Sydney Richards led the way with 17 points on seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and two of two at the line. Sydney Hakman added 13 points and Allison Sampson 11.

The Indians hit seven three-pointers in the contest led by Haylee Campbell with three and Sampson with two.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Ella Kinkelaar with 23 points on seven field goals, two of those three-pointers, and seven of 10 at the line.

Neoga (21-3) advances to a game tonight in winner bracket play against North Clay (Louisville) at 7 p.m.

South Central then edged Dieterich, 58-54. The Cougars held an 11-9 opening quarter lead but Dieterich came back with a 16-10 run to lead 25-21 at halftime.

South Central tallied a 19-8 third period to lead 40-33 going into the final quarter. The Cougars' Brooklyn Garrett connected on three baskets and two free throws for eight points while Jaylyn Michel hit a three-pointer and a regular basket for five and Kaitlyn Swift added a three-pointer.

The Movin' Maroons came back with a 21-18 final quarter but it was too little to make up that third quarter run by the Cougars. Miley Britton scored 11 points on three trifectas and a regular basket while Brittney Niemerg knocked in two three-pointers.

Three players hit double digits for the Cougars. Garrett led the way with 25 points on eight field goals and nine of 18 at the line. Taegan Webster scored 14, 10 points coming from the free throw line, and Swift added 10.

Dieterich was led by Britton with 18 on seven field goals, four of those three-pointers, and Courtney Brummer with 12.

The final game saw Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, playing in its second game of the evening, take down Altamont, 63-61.

Altamont held a 17-13 opening quarter lead. The score was knotted at 32-32 at halftime before Altamont edged ahead 44-43 going into the final quarter.

The Hatchets then came back with a 20-17 run for the two-point win. In that run, Sam Hayes knocked in a regular basket, a three-pointer and was three of four at the line while Ellie Wittenberg connected on a three-pointer, a two-pointer and two of two at the line for seven points. The Hatchets finished with eight of 10 from the line in the quarter.

Hayes led with 20 points on seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and five of seven at the line. Kinkelaar added 19 and Wittenberg 15.

Altamont was led by Skylie Klein with 13, Gabby Weishaar with 12 and Kylie Osteen with 11.

The tournament continues tonight as Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City meets South Central at 5:30 p.m. in conslation bracket action. The winner will advance to face Windsor/Stew-Stras Saturday at 4 p.m. for the consolation championship. The loser will play for seventh place at 2:30 against Altamont.

In winner bracket play, Neoga and North Clay (Louisville) square off at 7 p.m. followed by Brownstown/St. Elmo against St. Anthony at 8:30. The winners advance to the championship game Saturday at 7 p.m. while the losers will play for third place at 5:30.
