LOUISVILLE -- North Clay (Louisville) picked up a 78-68 victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg as two National Trail Conference teams met Tuesday evening in boys basketball.

 

The Cardinals had four players hit double figures in the win. Logan Fleener connected on 10 field goals, one a three-pointer, and was a perfect four of four at the line for 25. Jesse Weidner chipped in with 20 points while Cody Zimdars added 14 and Alex Boose contributed 11. 

North Clay edged ahead 19-15 in the opening quarter and led 39-26 at halftime. 

Windsor/Stew-Stras made a comeback bid in the final quarter with a 30-23 run but couldn't get over that second quarter surge by North Clay.

Austin Wittenberg scored 25 points on nine field goals, one a three-pointer, and six of nine at the line. Carter Chaney added 22 and was a perfect six of six at the line. Rhett Rincker finished with 10. The Hatchets ended with 13 of 17 from the free throw line.

The Cardinals were 14 of 21 at the free throw line.

North Clay improved to 14-5 on the season while Windsor/Stew-Stras dropped to 16-5.

In the junior varsity game, Windsor/Stew-Stras edged North Clay, 43-42. WSS was led by Nathanial Gracey with 14 and Jesse Smith with 10.

North Clay was led by Jack Compton with 10.

At Farina

South Central's Aidan Dodson put together a 17-point first half as the Cougars took a 32-21 halftime lead on Neoga. The Cougars then had a 28-24 second half for a 60-45 win over the Indians Tuesday evening.

Dodson scored three baskets and three free throws in the opening quarter for nine points. He then added three more baskets and two more free throws for eight in the second period. 

Ethan Watwood took over the scoring duties in the third quarter for the Cougars. He connected on four baskets that included two three-pointers for 10 of the team's 16 points.

Neoga' s Bryar Hennesay was the leader in the opening quarter scoring all seven of his points then it was Trey Sheehan who took over the scoring duties with four baskets and a free throw for nine of his team's 11 in the second period. Quintin Richards came on in the second half to hit 13 of his final 16 points. He scored six field goals, one a three-pointer, and was three of four at the line.

South Central's Dodson finished with 21 points while Watwood added 17. The Cougars were a perfect 11 of 11 from the free throw line. The Cougars are now 14-6 on the season.

Neoga was led by Richards with 16 and Sheehan with 13.

South Central also claimed the junior varsity game and a freshman/sophomore contest.

At Farina

At Altamont

Altamont improved to 16-3 on the season with a 72-46 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday night.

The Indians are 4-0 in the National Trail Conference.

Altamont took an 18-11 lead behind three trifectas, two by Jared Hammer and one by Dillan Elam.

CHBC came back with a 15-11 second quarter to pull within 29-26 at halftime. 

Then Indians then went on a scoring run in the third quarter as Mason Robinson connected on three baskets, one a three-pointer, and was three of four at the line for 10 points. Elam hit his second three-pointer and Altamont moved ahead 49-36. 

Altamont then put the game totally away with a 23-10 final period.

Robinson finished with 17 points for the winners while Elam added 15. Avery Jahraus chipped in with nine.

The Indians are 4-0 in the National Trail Conference.

CHBC was led by Clayton Wojcik with 15 and AJ Radloff with 10.

Altamont claimed the junior varsity contest, 80-22.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown was a 57-44 winner over Martinsville in a matchup Tuesday evening.

The Eagles held a 16-12 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 29-18 at halftime.

The Bluestreaks came back with a 19-17 third period but SEB went on a 17-7 final quarter run.

SEB hit 43 percent from the field and were 94 percent from the free throw line with 16 of 17.

Leading the way in scoring was Jarrett Pasley with 22 points on eight field goals that included two three-pointers and was four of five at the line. Caleb Campbell added 15 and was a perfect eight of eight at the free throw line. Adam Atwood chipped in with 11 and was four of four at the three throw line.

St. Elmo/Brownstown is now 12-5 on the season.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis took the early lead and went on for a 69-48 victory over Danville Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes held a 16-9 opening quarter lead and led 33-27 halftime lead. T-town finished with a 16-9 final quarter.

Four players hit double figures for the Shoes. Brendan Niebrugge led the way with 16 ponts on six field goals that included four three-pointers. Joey Niebrugge tallied 14, Garrett Gaddis 12 and Caleb Siemer 11.

Siemer led the way in rebounds with 12. Siemer had eight assists and B. Niebrugge four assists.

The Wooden Shoes are now 15-4 on the season.

Mount Carmel held a 33-19 halftime lead and went on for a 58-42 win over Newton Tuesday evening.

The Eagles had only one player hit double figures. Dylan Gier tallied 14 points on four field goals and six of six at the line. Parker Wolf added nine.

Newton is now 2-2 in the Little Illini Conference and 13-7 overall. The Eagles return to action Saturday in the LIC Tournament at Olney against this same Mount Carmel squad.

Okaw Valley came calling and picked up a 56-40 win over host Cumberland Tuesday.

Okaw Valley edged out to a 12-11 opening quarter lead then had a 15-7 second period to lead 27-18 at halftime.

Okaw Valley continued its second period run with a 14-5 third quarter to lead 41-23.

Cumberland finished out with 17-15 final period. Gavin Hendrix led the Pirates with 12 points while Trevin Magee added 10.
