Two area junior high school teams are headed to the State Girls Basketball Tournaments after picking up victories in sectional action Wednesday evening.

 

Class 1A Decatur Lutheran Sectional

Sigel St. Michael captured a 46-14 win over North Clay (Louisville) to win the Class 7-1A Decatur Lutheran Sectional.

North Clay finished the season with a 15-8 record.

The Sharpshooters advance to the Class 7-1A State Tournament at Assumption Central A&M Middle School Saturday.

St. Michael will face Carrollton St. John (20-2) at 1 p.m. In other first round games, Lockport Taft (15-4) takes on Peoria Limestone Walters (16-6) at 10 a.m., Washington St. Patrick (25-0) meets the winner of sectional three at 11:30 a.m. and Ottawa Wallace (25-) and Royal Prairieview Ogden (18-2) meet at 2:30.

The winners advance to 5 and 6:30 p.m. contests Saturday. The third place game is scheduled for 6 p.m. while the two winners meet for the championship at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 8.

 

Class 7-2A St. Anthony Sectional

Altamont was the champion of the St. Anthony Sectional Wednesday.

Altamont captured an easy victory over Edwards County (Albion), 32-12. Altamont improves to 20-6 and heads to the Class 2A State Tournament at Paris High School Saturday.

Altamont (20-6) will meet Liberty (25-1) in the first game at 10 a.m. The following games include Riverdale Washington (14-2) vs. Nokomis (23-4) at 11:30, Glasford Illini Bluffs (19-3) taking on Heywoth (22-1) at 1 p.m. and Paris Crestwood (22-0) facing Havana (25-0) at 2:30 p.m.

The winners meet at 5 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The third place game is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, December 8 while the championship will take place at 7:30 p.m.

 

Class 7-3A Paris Mayo Sectional

Jasper County fell in the sectional championship game.

Paris Mayo was a 30-22 winner and heads to the Class 7-3A State Tournament with a 23-3 record.
