LOUISVILLE -- North Clay (Louisvile) played host to Effingham St. Anthony in boys basketball competition Tuesday evening and sent the Bulldogs home with a 53-49 loss.

The two teams played to a 12-12 opening quarter tie as Cody Zimdars connected on two three-pointers for the Cardinals while Brock Fearday led the Bulldogs with five points.

St. Anthony edged ahead at halftime 22-21 behind Fearday's eight points in the quarter. Four players scored for North Clay.

The two teams then played to a 15-15 third quarter as Fearday again was the leader with nine points for the Bulldogs while Levi Smith led with nine points for the Cardinals.

North Clay then went on a 17-12 final quarter run to pull out the four-point victory.

Logan Fleener nailed a three-pointer and a regular basket for five points while Smith added four more points in the final period. Zimdars and Ethan Kuenstler nailed a three-pointer each.

Fleener finished with 13 points to lead three players in double figures for North Clay. Zimdars tallied 11 and Kuenstler added 10.

St. Anthony was led by Fearday with 24 points on nine field goals and six of eight at the line. Jonathan Willenborg chipped in with nine.

In junior varsity play, the Bulldogs won 83-6. Ryan Schmidt tallied 18 and Brady Hatton 16 for the winners. North Clay was led by Byers with three points.

In the freshman/sophomore contest, St. Anthony edged North Clay, 32-31.

At Altamont

Altamont edged out to the early lead and went on for a 52-43 non-conference win over Cumberland Tuesday.

The Indians held a 12-10 opening quarter lead and led 26-17 at halftime. Aden McManaway knocked in three trifectas in the first half while Dillan Elam scored 10 by the half and Avery Jahraus chipped in with five.

The Pirates came back with a 15-13 third quarter to pull within 39-32 as Gavin Hendrix went on a tear with three baskets and two free throws for eight in the quarter.

But Altamont had control with a 13-11 final period for the winning margin.

Jahraus tallied 14 to lead the way while Elam added 12.

Cumberland was led by Hendrix with 14 and Maddox McElravy with nine.

In junior varsity play, Altamont was a 59-30 winner. Kaidyn Miller tallied 20 and Aden McManaway 14 for the winners. Cumberland was led by Z. Hamon with six.

At Neoga

Neoga picked up a 61-42 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City as two National Trail Conference teams met Tuesday evening.

Brady Reynolds went on a run in the opening quarter as Neoga ripped out to a 19-4 lead. Reynolds connected on four regular baskets and a free throw for nine in the period.

Neoga moved to 35-20 at halftime and had a 48-30 lead going into the final period.

Reynolds finished with 25 to lead the way for Neoga with nine field goals that included one three-pointer and six of eight at the line. Also in double figures was Quintin Richards with 19 on four field goals that included a three-pointer and eight of 12 at the line.

CHBC was led by three players in double figures. Clayton Wojcik scored 11 while Kaidyn Calame and T. Thies scored 10 each.

At Neoga

At Strasburg

Austin Wittenberg reached 1,000 points in his career as Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg tallied a 52-42 win over Sullivan in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening.

The Hatchets edged out to an 8-7 lead then pushed that to 22-15 at halftime. Sullivan came back with a 14-9 third quarter to pull within 31-29. But WSS got back on track with a 21-13 final period.

Wittenberg hit eight field goals and was eight of nine at the line for 24 points to push him over 1,000 for his career. Also in double figures, Talon Bridges scored 11.

The Hatchets are now 4-1 on the season.

Windsor/Stew-Stras also claimed the junior varsity game, 45-37.

At Ramsey

South Central's Aidan Dodson had an outstanding game as his squad defeated Ramsey, 67-58 Tuesday evening.

Dodson scored six points in the opening quarter as the two teams played to a 16-16 tie.

Leading only by three going into the final quarter, South Central went on a 21-15 run and Dodson went to work. He connected on five field goals in the quarter and five free throws for 15 of his team's 21 points. 

Dodson finished with 31 on 11 field goals, that included one three-pointer, and was eight of 12 at the line. Also in double figures was Anthony Buonaura with 18 on seven field goals and four of five at the line.

The Cougars finished with 14 of 20 free throws while Ramsey had five of six.

South Central also won the junior varsity game.

Dieterich played host to Cisne and was a 56-44 winner in a non-conference contest Tuesday evening.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 14-10 opening quarter lead as Luke Westendorf scored six points and Cole Will connected on a three-pointer. Dieterich held a 26-20 halftime lead. Caleb Gephart took over with three baskets in the quarter.

Gephart continued on after the half with three more baskets in the 13-9 third quarter run and finished with 17 to lead Dieterich. Also in double figures was Westendorf with 14 and Will with 13.

Salem took the early lead but Newton came back and went on for a 65-49 victory Tuesday evening.

The Wildcats led 13-8 after the opening quarter but Newton moved ahead 35-27 at halftime then had a 24-12 third quarter.

Parker Wolf led three players in double figures for Newton with 24 while Dylan Gier added 16 and Caden Nichols 13.

Newton improved to 3-1 on the season and will be back in action Friday at Paris in a Little Illini Conference opener.

Salem claimed the junior varsity game, 24-18.
