Effingham St. Anthony Thanksgiving Tournament

Rantoul 51, Mattoon 50

Breese Central 58, EHS 32 (The Hearts took the loss in their season opener, taking a 3-0 lead, then trailing for the balance of the contest. Breese Central led 12-6 after one quarter, 30-13 at halftime, and 46-19 after three quarters. Garrett Wolfe led the Hearts with 12 points. Also for Effingham: Andrew Donaldson 7, Cannon Bockhorn 5, Logan Heil 4, Andrew Splechter 2 and Spencer Fox 2 each. The Cougars had three players in double figures. Effingham shot 30.9% from the field, 13 of 42, including 3 of 17 threes. The Hearts were three-of-four from the foul line, pulled down 21 rebounds, and turned the ball over 15 times)

T-Town 48, Highland 36 (The Wooden Shoes played a great first half, then held off a determined Highland team in the second half. The Shoes led 11-8 after one quarter, then outpointed the Bulldogs 18-4 in the second quarter to lead 29-12 at halftime. Highland outscored Teutopolis 24-19 in the second half, but the Shoes won by 12. Caleb Siemer led Teutopolis with 16 points and nine rebounds. James Niebrugge had five points and nine rebounds, and Joey Niebrugge scored eight points with seven rebounds. Also for the Shoes: Garrett Gaddis 7, Brendan Niebrugge 4, Logan Roepke and Mitch Koester 3 each, and Tyler Pruemer 2. Cade Altadonna with 14 and Jake Ottensmeier with 11 led Highland in scoring. Teutopolis made 14 of 39 shots, 36%, while making 15 of 23 foul shots. The Shoes had a whopping 44 rebounds but committed 16 turnovers, 12 in the second half. Teutopolis is 2-0 in the tournament and on the season, and will be back in action on Friday at 4:30pm against Mattoon)

Cumberland 66  Marshall  30

North Clay 63, Newton 62 (This might have been the best game of the night in the area. Newton took a 19-12 first quarter lead, but North Clay stormed back to lead 33-32 at halftime. The Cardinals were up 47-43 after three quarters, but held off Newton who outpointed North Clay 19-16 in the final period. Logan Fleener poured in 31 points to lead North Clay while Alex Boose added 21 points. Also for the Cardinals: Smith and Walden 4 each, Kuenstler 2, and Weidner 1. For Newton: Caden Nichols 22, Parker Wolf 16, Dylan Geier 12, Kye Bergbower 5, Gus Bierman 4, Marc Jansen 3, and Max Meinhart and Jacob Weber 1 each (NEWTON SCORING TOTALS 64)

Mulberry Grove Thanksgiving Tournament

Windsor/Stew-Stras 47, Leroy 41 (LeRoy led the game 11-6 after one quarter and 25-18 at halftime, but a 15-2 run by the Hatchets gave them the lead 33-27 after three quarters and a 14-14 fourth quarter gave WSS the win. For Windsor/Stew-Stras: Austin Wittenberg 16, Carter Chaney 12, Jordan Wittenberg 9, Nathaniel Gracey 4, and Talon Bridges, Rhett Rincker and Dylan Curry 2 each. It was the season opener for the Hatchets)

Morton 64, Altamont 53 (Altamont led early, up 16-10 after one quarter, but Morton took the lead from there, leading 26-24 at halftime, and 46-37 after three quarters. Altamont was led by Mason Robinson with 16 points and Avery Jahraus with 14 points. Also for Altamont: Eric Kollmann 8, Wyatt Phillips 7, Dillan Elam 6, and Aden McManaway 2. It was the season opener for the Indians)

South Central 54, Flora 44 (the Cougars got their season started on a winning note, although they trailed 11-10 after one quarter and 24-21 at halftime. South Central was still behind 37-33 after three quarters, before exploding in the final period, outscoring the Wolves 21-7 to post the 10-point win. Aiden Dodson led the Cougars with 19 points and Anthony Buoanara scored 14 points. Also for South Central: Evan Watwood 9, Bergmann 7, Markley 3, and Anderson 2. Tolliver led Flora with 15 points)

Cowden Herrick/Beecher City Thanksgiving Tournament

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 67, Ramsey 22 (the Bobcats led 16-5 after one quarter and cruised from there, up 35-14 at halftime, and ahead 57-20 after three quarters. For CHBC: Macee Rodman 19, Gracie Heckert 17, Carmen Olesen 10, Mady Wojcik 9, Ruby Stuckemeyer 5, Marissa Summers 4, Karlee Smith 3; CHBC is now 3-0)
