BOYS

Salem Invitational Tournament

Madison  52,  Effingham  44 (Effingham got out of the gate well early, and held a 16-9 lead after the first quarter, but a shift to various zone defenses later forced the Hearts into a total of 20 turnovers in the contest and that gave Madison the opening they needed. Effingham still led 22-20 at halftime and only trailed 33-32 after three quarters, but the Trojans outscored Effingham 19-12 in the final quarter to post the eight-point win. The Hearts made just 16 of 48 shots, 33%, and made just 25% from the field after halftime. Effingham made 8 of 26 threes and made six of nine from the line. Madison ended up 17 of 44 from the field including 3 of 17 threes. Madison also committed 20 turnovers, but outboarded the Hearts 29-24. Garrett Wolfe led Effingham with 17 points. Also for the Hearts: Jett Volpi, Brayden Pals and Armando Estrada 7 each, and Dalton Fox and Ethan Ritz 3 each. The Hearts are now 7-13 on the season.
