Effingham Sacred Heart edged South Central 47-46 in the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday.

South Central took an 18-12 opening quarter lead but the Shamrocks came back with a 15-8 second period to lead 27-26 at halftime.

Sacred Heart had a slight 12-11 third period to lead 39-37. South Central came back with a 9-8 final period only to fall short.

Traub led Sacred Heart with 19 points while Borries added 15.

South Central was led by Westin Neilson with 15 and Sebastian Kruger with 11.

In the other contest, Altamont was a 36-33 winner over St. Elmo/Brownstown.

Sacred Heart and Altamont will now meet for the consolation championship at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

In other games Thursday, Sigel St. Michael meets Stewardson-Strasburg at 6:45 p.m. for third place while North Clay takes on Dieterich for the championship at 8.

At Charleston

Teutopolis picked up two victories over Charleston Tuesday.

In the seventh-grade game, T-town held an 18-8 halftime lead and held off Charleston in the second half for a 32-26 win.

Jacob Kocher scored 14 for the Shoes while Teagan Pals added eight.

In the eighth-grade game, T-town won 52-29.

The Shoes had a 17-9 second period and finished strong with a 16-5 final quarter for the 52-29 win.

Isaac McWhorter and Landyn Thoele led T-town with 12 points each while Gavin Addis had 10.
