BSE, Neoga, St. A, Altamont Open NTC Girls Tourney With Wins

BEECHER CITY -- Play got underway at the National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament Monday.

In the opener, Brownstown/St. Elmo edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 54-49.

The Hatchets took the early lead 19-16 after the opening quarter but BSE came back to lead 33-27 at halftime. BSE then had a 12-10 third period before WSS finished out with a 12-9 final quarter.

Lexi Seabaugh led the way for the Bombers with 18 points while Laney Baldrige chipped in with 13.

WSS was led by Ella Kinkelaar with 20 and Morgan Mathis with 13.

Neoga picked up the second victory by a 46-36 count over North Clay (Louisville)

The Indians stepped out to a 29-14 halftime lead and never looked back.

Sydney Richards scored 13 while Trista Moore stepped in with 12.

The Cardinals were led by three players in double digits. Miah Ballard had 12 while Allison Czyzewski added 11 and Alexis VanDyke 10.

St. Anthony then picked up a 56-41 victory over South Central.

The Bulldogs ripped out to an 18-9 opening quarter lead and led by that same nine points at halftime, 24-15.

Lucy Fearday tallied 20 points while Riley Guy added 17 for the Bulldogs.

South Central was led by Brooklyn Garrett with 11 and Laney Webster with 10.

The final game went to Altamont over Dieterich by a 56-52 score.

The Movin' Maroons held a 14-11 opening quarter lead and led 27-25 at halftime. Dieterich still had the edge with a 17-16 third period to lead 44-41 going into the final period but couldn't hold on.

Altamont came roaring back with a 15-8 count to pull out the win. Grace Nelson went on a scoring binge with 11 of her team's 15 points for the win. Claire Boehm knocked in a three pointer.

Nelson finished wtih 24 points while Boehm and Peyton Osteen added 10 each.

Dieterich was led by Madilyn Brummer and Eva Meinhart with 11 each and Kaitlyn Boerngen with 10.

The tournament will continue Wednesday as top-seeded Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City takes on Brownstown/St. Elmo at 5:30 p.m. in winner bracket action while Windsor/Stew-Stras faces North Clay at 7 and Dieterich meets the loser of the CHBC vs. BSE contest at 8:30 in consolation bracket play.
