VIDEO: Chicago Brooks Wins Effingham/Teutopolis Tourney, T-town Takes Fifth

Chicago Brooks was the champion of the Effingham/Teutopolis Christmas Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.

Brooks handed Lincoln Way East a 53-46 loss. Leading the way for Brooks were three players in double figures. Anthony Vaval tallied 15 while Jerrett Moore had 14 and Kendall Larry 12.

Lincoln Way East was led by Kyle Olagbegi with 13 and Kaiden Ross with 10.

 

 

Third place went to Oaklawn over Newton, 50-34.

Champaign Centennial took the consolation championship with a 68-60 win over Dixon.

In the fifth place contest, Teutopolis was a 58-47 winner over Effingham.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to an 18-14 opening quarter lead as Caleb Siemer connected for seven points. Effingham's Garrett Wolfe led the Hearts with 12 of the 14 points hitting two three-pointers, two regular baskets and two free throws.

The Hearts came back with a slight 8-7 second period to trail 25-22 at halftime. But T-town went on a 16-10 third period run and finished out with a 17-15 final quarter.

Siemer tallied 19 points for the Shoes while James Niebrugge added 16.

EHS was led by Wolfe with 20 and Jett Volpi with 12.

In the sevenh place game, Knoxville edged Effingham St. Anthony, 48-43.

The Bulldogs ran out to a 14-8 opening quarter lead as six players scored. St. Anthony held a 20-17 halftime lead but Knoxville had a 9-6 edge.

Then in the third period, St. Anthony still held the lead 33-28 with a 13-11 run. But the Blue Bullets came back in the final period with a 20-10 surge to pull out the contest.

David Hise went to work for Knoxville connecting on three field goals and was eight of 10 at the line for 21 points. Braden Downs added 14 and Kellen McClay 12.

St. Anthony had only one player in double figures as Kyle Stewart scored 13. Brock Fearday and Collin Westendorf had eight each.
