Effingham 78, Mattoon 65 (the Hearts improved to 16-1 on the season with the victory over the Green Wave in a game heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com; Hearts senior Nathan Thompson scored 36 points to go past the 1,000 career point mark and also claimed 18 rebounds in a dominating performance that featured a rim-rattling dunk; Parker Wolfe also had a big night for the Hearts, scoring 29 points; also for the Hearts: Garrett Wolfe 9, and Jacob Stoneburner and Brayden Pals 2 each; Mattoon got 28 points from Malik Carter-Smith, along with 19 points from Cam'Ron Thomas and 11 points from Cooper Bergstrom; also for Mattoon: Pierce Farmer and Sam Bradbury 3 each, and Jaylen Middleton 1; Effingham shot 39% from the field, 24 of 62, including 9 of 29 threes; the Hearts made 21 of 29 foul shots, pulled down 44 rebounds and turned the ball over just 10 times; Mattoon made 45% of its shots, 22 of 49, including 7 of 20 threes; Mattoon made 14 of 28 free throws, grabbed 20 rebounds and also committed 10 turnovers; Effingham improved to 16-1 on the season and will close out their campaign hosting Charleston Saturday, with the varsity contest following a 1pm JV game; Mattoon is 7-6 on the season; the Hearts honored seniors Parker Wolfe, Nathan Thompson, Jacob Stoneburner, Jakob Logan and Chase Woomer before the game; Effingham won the JV game 43-34; for Effingham: Ethan Ritz 12, Max Hardiek and Andrew Splechter 8 each, Dalton Fox 6, Jett Volpi 5, and Brayden Pals 4)

 

Teutopolis 67, Mount Zion 46 (the Wooden Shoes' Evan Wermert is one point away from 1,000 for his career, finishing with 26 points on the night; also for Teutopolis: Matthew Deters and Evan Addis 11 each, Jordan Hardiek 10, Max Niebrugge 5, and Brendan Niebrugge and Caleb Siemer 2 each; Wermert also had seven rebounds and five assists, Hardiek four rebounds and five assists, Max Niebrugge 5 rebounds and 7 assists, Addis 5 assists, and Deters and Siemer 5 rebounds each; Teutopolis hosts Newton Saturday to close the season)

NTC CHAMPIONS NIGHT SHOOTOUT

#1 St. Anthony 60, #2 Dieterich 42 (in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com, St. Anthony captured the shootout game to back up their regular season conference championship; St. Anthony led 13-11 after one quarter, was up 28-19 at halftime, and led 52-33 after three quarters; the Bulldogs made 24 of 52 shots, 46%, including 7 of 21 threes, made 5 of 7 free throws, turned the ball over just eight times and pulled down 25 rebounds; Dieterich made just 27% of its shots, 14 of 52, including 1 of 10 threes; the Movin Maroons made 13 of 19 foul shots, grabbed 33 rebounds and committed 20 turnovers; for St. Anthony, Logan Antrim led the scoring with 14 points, while Grant Nuxoll and Ty Wiedman each scored 11 points; also for the Bulldogs: Craig Croy 8, Seth Hotze 6, and Kennan Walsh and James Schuette 5 each; for Dieterich, Bryce Budde and Andrew Lidy each scored 11 points and Jack Westendorf added 10 points; also for Dieterich: Pete Britton 7, and Derek Kuhl 3; St. Anthony finished the season with a 12-4 record and undefeated in National Trail Conference play, while Dieterich is 10-5 and went 7-1 in the conference)
