LINCOLN -- Effingham High School ran into a Lincoln team that took the early lead and handed the Hearts a 49-39 Apollo Conference loss in girls basketball action Thursday.

The Railsplitters took an 11-7 opeing quarter lead as Kloe Froebe tallied nine of those points on four baskets that included a three-pointer.

Froebe continued her hot scoring with nine more in the second quarter as Lincoln held a 26-18 halftime lead.

Annie Frost led EHS in the second period with five points.

Lincoln had an 11-7 third quarter. The Hearts finished with a 14-12 edge in the final period.

Froebe led Lincoln with 26 points on 11 field goals, with two of those from three-point range, and two of two at the line.

The Hearts were led by Frost with eight field goals, four of seven at the line for 20 points.

At Neoga

Neoga stepped out to an 11-4 opening quarter lead and outscored St. Anthony 26-14 in the second half for a 46-28 win Thursday.

Neoga's Kylee Phillips was the lone player for both teams to finish in double figures. Phillips had 15 on three field goals, one of those from three-point range, and eight of eight free throws.

St. Anthony was led by Riley Guy with seven points on three field goals and one of two at the line.

Neoga improved to 7-1 in the National Trail Conference and 13-2 overall and will travel to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Saturday.

The Bulldogs dropped to 3-4 in the conference.

St. Anthony claimed the junior varsity game, 33-28. Lucy Fearday scored 10 for the Bulldogs. Neoga was led by Campbell with 10.

At Brownstown

Altamont easily handed Brownstown/St. Elmo in National Trail Conference play Thursday, 58-30.

The Indians held a 32-14 halftime lead as Claire Boehm scored eight points in the second period while Grace Nelson had 11, seven in the opening quarter.

Altamont then went on a 26-10 third period surge as Peyton SOteen nailed two three-poitners while Brooe Runge went to work on three trifectas and two points for 11. Nelson added six more points.

BSE then had a 6-0 final quarter.

Nelson led Altamont with 17 points while Runge tallied 14. The Indians are now 7-1 in the conference and tied with Neoga. BSE dropped to 0-6 in the conference.

Brownstown/St. Elmo was led by Sidney Stine with 11 points.

In junior varsity action, Brownstown/St. Elmo was a 43-22 winner. BSE was led by J. Ireland with 16 and L. Seabaugh with 11.

St. Anthony was led by Peyton Osteen with five points.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City scored a 61-39 win over Dieterich as two National Trail Conference teams met Thursday.

CHBC took a 16-9 opening quarter and held that same seven point lead at halftime, 26-19. The Bobcats then had a 35-20 second half time.

Gracie Heckert and Carsen Burks were the one-two scoring punch for the Bobcats with 17 each. Heckert hit six field goals including a three-pointer and was two of two at the line while Burks tallied on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and six of nine at the line.

Heckert led in rebounds with nine while Sydney Lorton had eight. Lorton and Mackenzie Bunch had four steals. Lani Morrison had seven assists while Heckert had four.

Dieterich was led by Kaitlyn Boerngen with 11 on four field goals, including two three-pointers, and one of two at the line. CHBC improved to 3-5 in the conference while Dieterich dropped to 0-6.

In the junior varsity contest, the Movin' Maroons won over CHBC, 33-26. Cortney Brummer had 11 points for the winners. Marissa Summers and Harleigh Bunch had six each for CHBC.

At Charleston

Charleston played host to Teutopolis and edged the Wooden Shoes, 54-50.

The Trojans ripped out to a 16-9 opening quarter lead but T-town came back within a 27-25 at halftime. The Wooden Shoes then moved ahead with a 12-6 third quarter to lead 37-33. But here came Charleston with a 21-13 run as Shae Littleford connected on two baskets and hit eight free throws for 12 points and the Trojans pulled out the victory.

Littleford finished with 29 points on nine field goals, including two three-pointers, and was nine of 14 at the line. Triplett scored 15.

The Wooden Shoes were led by Kaitlyn Schumacher with 17 and Kaylee Niebrugge with 13. Schumacher hit seven field goals and three of four at the line. Niebrugge hit four field goals and was five of six at the line.

K. Niebrugge led in rebounds with 10 while Schumacher had seven. Schumacher led in steals with four.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg tallied a 56-45 win over South Central in National Trail Conference action Thursday.

WSS led 13-9 after the opening quarter and 28-19 at halftime. The Hatchets had a 20-4 third quarter run.

Mikala Nichols led the way with 14 while Ella Kinkelaar added 10.

South Central was led by Halle Smith with 11 and Taegan Webster with 10.

Windsor/Stew-Stras improved to 6-2 in the National Trail Conference while South Central dropped to 2-6.

At Strasburg

At Newton

Newton traveled to Olney for a Little Illini Conference matchup and claimed a 44-39 victory Thursday.

Newton trailed Olney 13-11 after the opening quarter but came back to knot the score at 21-21 at halftime. The Eagles then had a 23-18 second half run to pull out the win.

Whitney Zumbahlen led the way for Newton with a double-double that included 17 points on five field goals and seven of eight at the line and 10 rebounds. Also in double figures was Allison Einhorn with 11 on four field goals that included a three-pointer, and two of four at the line. Ava Kessler and Lindsey McClain led in assists with six each. A. Kessler and Zumbahlen had a blocked shot each in the fourth quarter.

Newton improves to 6-3 in the conference, 6-6 overall.

"The girls finished the game well," said Newton Coach Brad Harris. "It was a close game throughout and the girls executed well down the stretch to bring home the win. I am proud of the team for battling all game and finishing strong with a solid team defensive effort and making free throws to seal the win."

Newton claimed the junior varsity contest, 37-9. l. Kessler led in scoring with 10 points. The Eagles are 6-4.

Newton is back in action at Robinson Saturday with the junior varsity game beginning at 10 a.m.
