Hearts Get Past Shoes; Bulldogs Win Over Altamont

Effingham tallied a 77-73 victory over Teutopolis Tuesday evening.

It was a wild one, as the teams combined for 59 points in the fourth quarter before the Hearts posted a four-point win. Effingham was up by as many as 12 points before the Wooden Shoes cut it to a one-possession deficit, but the Hearts' foul shooting made the difference, outscoring T-Town 31-12 at the line on the night.

Effingham made 22 of 51 from the field even factoring in 2 of 15 threes, but at the foul line Effingham made 31 of 35 attempts. Teutopolis made 24 of 58 shots including 8 of 23 threes and made 12 of 15 foul shots. Effingham outrebounded Teutopolis 33-24.

For such a contested game, Effingham had just eight turnovers and Teutopolis only turned the ball over five times.

Parker Wolfe had a huge game for the Hearts, scoring 36 points including 16 of 18 at the line, Nate Thompson scored 15 points including nine of nine at the line, Garrett Wolfe scored 11 points including five of five at the line; Jacob Stoneburner and Brayden Pals each scored six points, and Jakob Logan scored three points; Pals led with nine rebounds while Thompson had eight.

For Teutopolis, Jordan Hardiek led with 23 points, while Max Niebrugge and Evan Wermert each scored 15 points, and Evan Addis added 10 points, Caleb Siemer eight, and Matthew Deters two points; Siemer led in rebounds with nine.

Effingham improved to 12-1 on the season, while Teutopolis is now 8-4.

Teutopolis won the junior varsity game 64-40 with Siemer leading the Shoes with 15 points and James Niebrugge with 12. For Effingham, Jett Volpi scored 17 points while Ethan Ritz added 10 points.

St Anthony 61, Altamont 36 

The Indians held an 11-5 lead after one quarter, but the Bulldogs turned it around from that point. St. Anthony outscored Altamont 19-9 in the second period to lead 24-20 at halftime and then posted an 18-4 edge in the third quarter to pull ahead 42-24. A 19-12 fourth quarter edge by the Bulldogs accounted for the 25-point win.

St. Anthony made 21 of 49 shots, 43% including 8 of 20 threes, hit 11 of 17 foul shots, grabbed 30 rebounds, and committed 10 turnovers; Altamont made 14 of 40 shots for 35% including 2 of 10 threes, made 6 of 10 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds but turned the ball over 21 times.

The Bulldogs featured a balanced scoring attack, Craig Croy with 12, Seth Hotze and Ty Wiedman with 10 apiece, Kennan Walsh and Grant Nuxoll with nine each, Logan Antrim with seven, and James Schuette with four.

For Altamont, Kaden Eirhart led with 12 points, Noah Klimpel seven, Derick Budde and Brennyn Abendroth with five each, Eric Kollman with three, and Jared Hammer and Tyler Robbins with two points each.

St. Anthony improved to 9-2 on the season, while Altamont is now 10-3.
