Indians, Cardinals, Hatchets, Shoes Nab Saturday Victories

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School played host to Newton in boys basketball competition Saturday and downed the Eagles, 54-43.

The Indians stepped out to a 16-9 opening quarter lead as Kaden Eirhart connected for seven points and Noah Klimpel five. Altamont had a 26-16 halftime lead and then had a 13-5 third quarter run as Eirhart knocked in a two-pointer and was four of four at the line. Brennyn Abendroth scored five points on a three-pointer and a regular basket.

Eirhart finished with 23 points while Abendroth added 13 and Klimpel 10 for the winners.

Leading the Eagles was Aaron Einhorn with 16 on five baskets that included four three-pointers and was two of two at the line.

Altamont improved to 6-2 on the season.

The Indians also captured the junior varsity contest, 51-30. Dillon Elam and Eric Kollmann scored 12 points each for the winners. Newton was led by Schafer with 15 and Mulvey with 10.

At Louisville

Logan Fleener and Alex Boose tallied 13 points each as North Clay (Louisville) handed St. Elmo/Brownstown a National Trail Conference loss Saturday.

Fleener connected on six field goals that included one three-pointer while Boose hit four field goals and was five of five at the line. Dakota Weidner had seven rebounds, two steals and three assists. Bryton Griffy had three assists. Fleener led in steals with three.

The Cardinals held a 35-18 halftime lead and never looked back. North Clay hit 12 of 12 from the free throw line and shot 51% from the field.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Brady Maxey and Caleb Campbell with 10 points each. Gavyn Smith had four rebounds and two assists. Maxey and David Stine had two assists each. Stine added three steals.

In junior varsity play, North Clay captured a 55-42 win. Brody Ingram tallied 18 and Bryton Griffy 16 for the winners. SEB was led by Atwood and Pasley with 10 each.

In the freshman/sophomore contest, North Clay edged St. Elmo/Brownstown, 48-43. Levi Smith led the winners with 15 points while Trey Wells tallied 12. SEB was led by Schaub with 10.

At Assumption

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg had a big scoring third quarter to hand Central A&M a 52-48 non-conference loss Saturday.

WSS held a 22-20 halftime lead then had a 12-2 third period run. Central A&M came back with a 26-18 final quarter but the Hatchets held on for the four-point victory.

Austin Wittenberg led the way for the Hatchets with 18 points while Gavan Wernsing wasn't far behind with 16. The Hatchets improve to 2-5 on the season.

Windsor/Stew-Stras also claimed the junior varsity contest, 37-34.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis picked up a 74-59 victory over Macon Meridian Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes moved ahead 20-13 after the opening quarter and led 33-28 at halftime. The Shoes then went on a scoring run in the third quarter 21-8 and put the contest away.

Evan Wermert tallied 23 for the Shoes while Jordan Hardiek added 17 and Evan Addis 10. The Shoes connected on eight three-pointers as Wermert hit three, Hardiek two and Addis two.

Wermert led in rebounds with 11 and had five assists. Max Niebrugge had five rebounds, four steals and six assists.
