The Washington Mystics announced Wednesday that Elena Delle Donne will be paid her salary even if the reigning Women's National  Basketball Association Most Valuable Player doesn't play because of health concerns amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The 30-year-old has suffered from Lyme disease for years, revealing Wednesday that she takes 64 pills a day, and was surprised when she was denied a medical exemption earlier this week from playing this season that she'd expected for being high-risk.

An exemption would have guaranteed getting her full salary. Delle Donne wrote about her situation in ‘The Players’ Tribune’ Wednesday and also spoke about it on ESPN’s ‘SportsCenter.’
