The California sports academy, that was co-owned by the late Kobe Bryant, has retired “Mamba” from its name out of respect for Bryant and in what it said was a mutual decision with his estate. “Mamba” came from Bryant’s nickname, “The Black Mamba.” Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others were on their way to the Mamba Sports Academy when their helicopter crashed in January, killing everyone on board. The facility said it will return to its original name, Sports Academy.
