Area Coaches Named to IBCA Coaches of Year

The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association released its lists of junior high, high school and college coaches of the year. Several area coaches were honored.

In junior high school boys basketball, Effingham St. Anthony's Jason Ludwig was named in Class 7-2A while Teutopolis' Doug Smith was named in Class 7-3A and Kent Niebrugge in Class 8-3A.

In junior high girls, Effingham's Stan Depoister was named in Class 7-4A while T-town's Jordan Pals was named in Class 7-3A. Other local coaches named were Kelly Brookman (Robinson), Class 8-3A, Missy Tingley (Paris Crestwood), Class 7-2A and 8-2A and Mel White (Taylorville), Class 7-4A.

In high school boys basketball, Effingham St. Anthony's Cody Rincker and Altamont's John Niebrugge were named to Class 1A .

Other local coaches named were Tom Brannan (Casey-Westfield), Class 1A and Neil Alexander (Lincoln), Class 3A.

In high school girls basketball, Altamont's Katie Lurkins was named in Class 1A and Teutopolis' Laurie Thompson was named in Class 2A.

Other local coaches included Amanda Aydt (Mattoon) and Shane Davis (Mount Zion), both in Class 3A.

Lake Land College's Dave Johnson was named in the college women's category while Brad Underwood (University of Illinois) and Anthony Figueroa (Parkland College) were named in the men's division.
