Wooden Shoes to Super-Sectional w/Double Overtime Win

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes downed the Breese Central Cougars 58-53 in double overtime Friday night to win the Greenville 2A Sectional Tournament and advance to super-sectional action Tuesday night.  The contest was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com. 

It was a close game throughout.  The Shoes held a 10-7 lead after one quarter and led 16-14 at halftime.  Breese Central came back to forge a 28-28 tie after three quarters and then the teams played even in the fourth period to send the contest to overtime tied 40-40.  Each squad scored five points in the first overtime before the Shoes outscored the Cougars 13-8 in the second overtime period to post the five-point win.

The Shoes won despite making just 36% of their shots, 13 of 36.  T-Town was the beneficiary of 41 foul shots, of which they made 30.  Teutopolis turned the ball over just nine times and pulled down 27 rebounds while making two of 10 three-point tries.  Breese Central made just 33% of its shots, 15 of 46 and made 16 of 21 foul shots while committing 15 turnovers and pulling down 34 rebounds while making seven of 26 three-point attempts.

Derek Smith led the way for Teutopolis with 15 points while Cody Will added 12 points.  Also for T-Town: Kyle Pruemer nine points, Brett Mette seven, Jared Waldhoff six, Devin Falbe four, Reed Hardiek three, and Rourke Schultz two points.

Greg Meyer led Breese Central with 16 points while Jacob Timmerman scored 14 points.

Breese Central, the defending 2A state champions, finished this season with a 22-10 record.

Teutopolis improved to 28-3 and will play Harrisburg Tuesday night at 8pm in the 2A Super-Sectional at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.  It will follow a 1A Super-Sectional set for 6pm that night.

All tickets will be sold Monday at Teutopolis High School for Tuesday night's game.  All tickets for the super-sectional are $10 each.  Here's the schedule for sales:

--2nd Hour--tournament players and managers, other boy basketball players, cheerleaders, pomerettes and girl basketball players

--Lunch Hour--students can buy tickets in this order: seniors then juniors, sophomores and freshmen, with students allowed to buy one ticket for themselves

--1 to 3pm--qualified staff may buy tickets

--4 to 5pm--sales to reserved gold seat holders, immediately followed by the general public on a first-come, first-served basis.  Each individual will be able to purchase five tickets once the gold season ticket holders have received their tickets. 

No admittance to Teutopolis High School to start forming lines Monday until 3:30pm.
