The St. Anthony Bulldogs experienced an ice cold shooting night at just the wrong time as the Central A&M Raiders defeated the Bulldogs 57-43 to win the Casey 1A Sectional championship Friday night. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

St. Anthony shot just 22% from the field, making only 13 of 58 shots, including 3 of 17 threes. The Bulldogs were 24% in the first half, 6 of 25, then made just 7 of 33 attempts in the second half, 21%.

One of the worst things about the rough shooting night was that St. Anthony played well in all other phases of the game, making 14 of 18 foul shots, committing only 14 turnovers in a high intensity game, and grabbing 39 rebounds to just 24 for the Raiders.

Central A&M made 43% of its shots, 22 of 51, including 2 of 4 threes. The Raiders made 9 of 15 free throws, 60%, and turned the ball over 11 times.

In a bit of irony, St. Anthony jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the game, but the Raiders came back to tie the game and the contest was pretty close for most of the rest of the night.

Central A&M led 16-12 after one quarter, were up 33-25 at halftime, and led 40-32 through three quarters following a 7-7 standoff in the period. The Raiders pushed their lead to 13 points, but the Bulldogs fought back to within four before Central A&M regrouped and outscored St. Anthony 17-11 to post the 14-point win.

Jaccob Dust posted one last double-double for St. Anthony with 13 points and a whopping 21 rebounds. Jack Hoene led the Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points. Also for St. Anthony: Aaron Webb 8, Logan Antrim 6, and Jack Elder 2.

Connor Heaton led Central A&M in scoring with 23 points including a couple of dunks at the end of the game. Jacob Parade scored 20 points, 12 in the second half. Also for the Raiders: Griffin Andricks 8, Connor Hutchins 4, and Brycen Burgener 2.

Central A&M improved to 30-3 on the season and avenged a one-point loss to St. Anthony last month at the Teutopolis Shootout.

St. Anthony finished the season at 29-4. The Bulldogs say goodbye to seniors Aaron Webb, Jack Hoene, Kaden Fearday, Jaccob Dust, Jack Elder and Connor Walk, as well as four-year manager Darin Hutchinson.

Best of success to Aaron Webb, who advanced to the finals of the Country Financial Three-Point Showdown. He will next shoot at the 1A state tournament on Thursday in Peoria. Webb made nine shots to force a tiebreaker, then made five shots in the second round to advance. Three other area players participated, but did not advance. Bryton Pruett of St. Elmo/Brownstown made eight shots, Aidan Jahraus of Altamont made seven shots, and Caden Young of Neoga made five shots.
