N. Clay, Altamont, Dieterich Move Into Title Games

BRIDGEPORT -- Despite trailing by 13 points after the opening quarter, North Clay (Louisville) rallied in the second half to claim a 69-61 victory over Odin in the Class 1A Red Hill (Bridgeport) Boys Basketball Regional Wednesday.

Odin stepped out to a 22-9 opening quarter lead and held a 37-30 halftime tally. North Clay's Ian Bailey scored the only points in the opening period by connecting on three trifectas.

The Cardinals got things straightened out at halftime and moved ahead 46-42 with a 16-5 run that included three trifectas by three different players and five of five at the line.

In the final period, the Cardinals salted away the victory. Tyson Jones, who had eight points at halftime, went on a tear connecting on one basket and nine of 11 at the line for 11 points in the run. Ethan Bible contributed seven points. North Clay was 15 of 19 at the line in that quarter.

North Clay finished with three players in double figures as Bailey led the way with 21 points while Jones added 19 and Bible chipped in with 14.

Odin also had three players in double figures. Shaffer led with 19 followed by Finckbone 16 and Parrish 11.

North Clay now advances to meet Effingham St. Anthony at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship. St. Anthony downed Red Hill (Bridgeport) 73-42 Wednesday in the first game of the evening.

Class 1A Altamont Regional

Altamont and Dieterich picked up victories Wednesday to advance to the championship game of this regional..

In the first game of the evening, Altamont handled St. Elmo/Brownstown to the tune of 66-38.

The Indians moved out to a 19-10 opening quarter lead on the strength of a three-point barrage. Kaden Eirhart nailed three while Aidan Jahraus and Denver Duckwitz scored one each.

Jace McWhorter connected on five of his team's 10 points hitting a three-pointer while Jaxon Tish also had a three-pointer.

St. Elmo/Brownstown had a 14-10 second period run to pull within 29-24 at halftime. This time Bryton Pruett scored five with a three-pointer and a regular basket.

But the Indians decided it was time to put the game in the victory column with an 18-4 third period surge. Jahraus scored eight while Noah Teasley added seven. Altamont finished out strong with a 19-10 final quarter.

Eirhart tallied 23 for the winners hitting a whopping seven three-pointers. Jahraus added 17.

The Eagles were led by Pruett with 10.

Dieterich then downed South Central in the second game of the evening, 52-28.

The Movin' Maroons took a 10-5 opening quarter lead hitting three field goals and four of six at the line. Hunter Brandt scored all five of South Central's points.

The lead went to 22-9 at halftime. Collin Hartke connected for five points as he hit a three-pointer and a regular basket. Derek Kuhl contributed a three-pointer.

The Maroons held a 30-17 lead going into the final period and had a 22-11 final quarter, most of the points coming from the free throw line. Dieterich hit 10 of 12 free throws. Kuhl was the leader with 10 points on three field goals and six of six at the line.

Kuhl finished with 17 to lead the Maroons while Cole Niebrugge added 13 and Hartke 11.

South Central was led by Brandt with eight.

Altamont and Dieterich will now meet Friday at 7 p.m. for the regional championship with the winner going on to the Casey-Westfield Sectional next week.

Class 1A Macon Meridian Regional

The lone local squad still alive in this regional went down to defeat Wednesday evening.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg fell to Moweaqua Central A&M, 61-33.

Central A&M held a 25-10 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 40-18 at halftime. A&M then had a 21-11 third quarter..

Three players scored in double figures for the winners. Heaton led with 19 while Jacob Paradee added 15 and Andricks 15.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg was led by Jordan Wittenberg with eight. The Hatchets finished the season with a 14-19 record.

In the second game, Nokomis downed Macon Meridian, 71-51.

Nokomis will now take on Moweaqua Central A&M at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.

Class 1A Bethany Okaw Valley Regional

Casey-Westfield and Bethany Okaw Valley moved into the championship game of the Bethany Okaw Valley Regional with victories Wednesday evening.

Casey-Westfield downed Cumberland, 50-34 in the opening game of the evening.

Cumberland took the early lead at 8-6 at the end of the first quarter. But that was the last lead the Pirates had as Casey-Westfield moved ahead and never looked back.

Noah Livingston tallied 22 to lead the Warriors while Dawson Dallape had 14 and Jackson HIlls 10.

Ross Hemmen led the Pirates with 13 points while Wyatt Napier finished with 10. The Pirates end the season with a 17-16 mark.

In the second game, Bethany Okaw Valley went overtime before beating Neoga, 50-48.

Okaw Valley held a 10 point lead in the second half but Neoga came charging back to take a 39-31 lead with around three minutes. Bethany Okaw Valley went on an eight point run to knot the score at 39-39 and moved ahead 42-40 with around 12 seconds on the clock. Trevor Roy scored a layup for the Indians with 5.6 seconds and the game went into overtime.

Okaw Valley's Cameron Sharp made the winning basket with 54 seconds on the clock.

Cumberland was led by Ross Hemmen with 13 points and Wyatt Napier with 10. Cumberland ended the season with a 17-16 record.

Moweaqua Central A&M and Nokomis wil square off at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.

 

Class 2A Paris Regional

Newton's season came to a close with a loss at the Paris Regional Wednesday.

The Eagles fell to Pana, 67-38.

Teutopolis will now face Pana at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.
