TOLEDO -- In a boys basketball contest Wednesday evening, Cumberland High School pounded Sangamon Valley, 53-13.

The Pirates took a 15-2 opening quarter lead and led 35-4 at halftime.

Scoring was spread among 10 players for Cumberland. Leading the way in double figures was Ross Hemmen with 11 points.

The Pirates will finish out regular season play Friday at Cerro Gordo/Bement before starting regional play in the Class 1A Bethany Okaw Valley Regional Monday against Arcola at 7:30 p.m.
