T-town Wins Regional Title; Neoga Falls

Teutopolis High School claimed the championship of the Class 2A Newton Regional.

NEWTON -- Teutopolis High School started the opening quarter off trailing Pana 7-3 but came back strong in the second period to lead 21-17 at halftime and held on for a 49-41 victory to win the Class 2A Newton Girls Basketball Regional Thursday evening.

Pana showed some life in the third quarter to pull within 34-33 but the Shoes then owned the final quarter as Hope Bueker connected on all six of her points while Ciara Roepke hit a basket and two of two at the line. Olivia Niemerg connected on three of four at the line and Karsyn Mette scored a bucket.

Niemerg led the way for the Wooden Shoes with 15 points while Roepke chipped in with 10. Lexi Niebrugge led in rebounds with five. Niemerg had three assists.

Pana was led by Hamilton with 16 points. She was held to five in the first half but then had a nine-point third period.

Teutopolis advances to the Paris Sectional and will face the winner of the Maroa-Forysth Regional, either Bismarck-Henning-Rossville-Alvin or Tolono Unity. Those two teams play tonight at the Maroa-Forsyth Regional at 7.

T-town will play Tolono Unity at 6pm Monday in the first game of the Paris 2A Sectional. Tolono Unity defeated Bismarck-Henning-Rossville-Alvin 56-53 to win the Maroa-Forsyth Reginal Friday night. We will have that game on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com. Undefeated Paris will take on St. Joe-Ogden in the second game Monday. Paris beat Sullivan 71-46 Friday night to win the Sullivan Regional. St. Joe-Ogden beat Villa Grove-Heritage 50-34 to win the St. Joe-Ogden Regional Thursday night.

Class 1A Neoga Regional

Neoga High School saw its season come to a close in the championship game of its own regional Thursday.

Neoga fell to Hume Shiloh (Tri-County), 65-42. Hume Shiloh ran off to an 18-6 opening quarter lead and led 44-20 at halftime.

The Indians were led by Olivia Titus with 13 points and Audrey Ramert with 11.

Hume Shiloh advances with a 26-5 record and will compete in the Casey-Westfield Sectional Monday at 6 p.m. against the winner of the North Clay (Louisville) Regional, either Brownstown/St. Elmo or Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City. Those two teams play tonight at 7.

One other area Class 1A regional championship is on tap. At the Effingham St. Anthony Regional, the Bulldogs will square off against Atlamont at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the Casey-Westfield Sectional to face the winner of the Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hamond Regional, either Moweaqua Central A&M or ALAH at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
