T-town, BSE, CHBC, Neoga To Play For Regional Titles

NEWTON -- Teutopolis High School moved into the championship game of the Class 2A Newton Girls Basketball Regional with a victory Tuesday evening.

The No. 2 seeded Wooden Shoes had no difficulty in pouncing on No. 9 Lawrenceville and finished with a 45-15 victory.

Coach Laurie Thompson's crew stepped out to a 15-6 opening quarter lead and led 32-7 at halftime, holding Lawrenceville to only one free throw in the second quarter and no points in the final period

Two Wooden Shoe players finished in double digits. Hope Bueker and Karsyn Mette scored 10 points each. Lexie Niebrugge had four assists. Mette led in rebounds with six while Olivia Niemerg pulled down five. Mette led in steals with three.

In the second game of the evening, No. 3 Pana won over No. 5 Mount Carmel, 59-50.

T-town and Pana advance to the championship game scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday.

 At Louisville

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Brownstown/St. Elmo moved into the championship game of the Class 1A North Clay (Louisville) Regional with victories Tuesday evening.

BSE tallied a 52-38 win over South Central.

The Bombers stepped out to a 17-6 opening quarter lead behind Jade Whitehead's five points and a three-pointer by Claire Wilhour. Sydnee Garrett scored all of South Central's six points.

The Cougars came back with an 11-7 second period to pull within 24-17 at halftime. But BSE got back on track with a 19-6 third quarter. C. Wilhour scored six in the period.

South Central had a 15-9 final period behind Halle Smith's seven points that included two three-pointers and Brooklyn Garrett's six points that included a trifecta.

BSE was led by C. Wilhour with 16 points as she hit six field goals that included three trifectas and was one of one at the line. Whitehead tallied 14 on six field goals and two of six at the line.

In the second contest of the evening, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City trailed North Clay (Louisville) by a point after the opening quarter but got things headed in the right direction with a 22-12 second quarter to lead 33-24 at halftime. The Bobcats then had a 25-18 second half for the 58-42 win.

Jaelyn Robertson tallied 23 points for the Bobcats with seven field goals that included two three-pointers and seven of 11 at the line.Lauren Wojcik tallied nine points. Lani Morisson led in rebounds with 12 and steals with seven. Robertson led in assists with five.

North Clay was led by Lovett with 22 and Czyzewski with 14.

At Neoga

Neoga edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 49-43 in its own Class 1A Neoga Regional Tuesday evening.

The opening contest went to Hume Shiloh over Martinsville, 80-37.

Windsor/Stew-Stras jetted out to a 15-5 opening quarter lead on Neoga but the Indians regrouped with a 20-11 second quarter to pull within 26-25 at halftime. Neoga continued its momentum with a 12-4 third quarter to lead 37-30 going into the final period. WSS had a 13-12 final period run but couldn't make up those two middle quarters.

Olivia Titus led the way for the Indians with 16 points and went over 1,000 points in her career. She hit three trifectas in the contest. Sydney Richards chipped in with 10. 

Neoga improved to 16-15 on the season and will now face Hume Shiloh at 7 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg was led by Hannah Hayes with 19 points and Mikala Nichols with 13. H. Hayes connected on three trifectas in the game.
