CLASS 1A DIETERICH REGIONAL

Oblong ended Neoga's season and moved into the championship game of the Dieterich  Boys Basketball Regional with a 54-44 victory Wednesday evening.

Neoga held the early lead but Oblong had two big scoring quarters in the second and third periods and led 39-29 going into the final period and held that 10 point lead to the end.

Anthony Johnson was the lone Oblong player in double figures with 25. Koert Mehler tallied nine.

Neoga was led by Wyatt Krikie with 15 and Jake Baker with 14.

Oblong advances to the title contest Friday at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of tonight's game featuring Dieterich taking on Windsor at 7:30 p.m.

CLASS 1A ST. ELMO REGIONAL

Two close games brought crowds to their feet several times over the night at the St. Elmo Regional.

In the opener, Nokomis edged host St. Elmo 37-35. The score was deadlocked at 8-8 after the opening quarter. The Eagles pushed ahead 20-16 at halftime. But Nokomis came back with a 6-4 third period run to pull within 24-22 going into the final quarter. From there, Nokomis kept the momentum and had a 15-11 final period edge to pull out the victory.

Devin Wright was the catalyst for Nokomis, scoring 20 points on nine field goals and two of three at the line.

St. Elmo was led by Levi Maxey with 21 points and Connor Beasley with 10.

In the second game, Altamont pulled out a 50-49 win over Cowden-Herrick in a game that was close throughout.

The Hornets held a 14-12 opening quarter lead but Altamont came roaring back with a 16-9 second period run to lead 28-23 at halftime. Then it was Cowden-Herrick's turn to pour on the heat with a 14-8 third period run and a 37-36 lead going into the final quarter.

Altamont pulled one out of the fire with a 14-12 final period surge. Jon Kuhns led the Indians with 16 points while Derek Jahraus chipped in with 11.

Cowden-Herrick was led by Luke Moore with 13 and Colton Burrus with 12.

Altamont and Nokomis moved into the championship game Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.

CLASS 1A EDWARDS COUNTY (ALBION) REGIONAL

North Clay (Louisville) and Cisne moved into the championship game of the Edwards County Regional with victories. The two will square off Friday at 7:30 p.m. for the regional title.

In the opener, Cisne picked up a 41-28 victory over Red Hill (Bridgeport).

The second game went to North Clay over Edwards County 80-58. The Cardinals pounded out to a 23-8 opening quarter lead and never looked back in this one.

Four players hit double digits for North Clay. Logan Hilderbrand, a 6-foot-4 senior, nailed 11 field goals and was four of six at the line for 26 points. Also in double digits were Cody Yoho with 15, Dylan Walker with 14 and Nathan Micklautz with 12.

CLASS 1A WOODLAWN REGIONAL

South Central saw its season come to a close with a 54-25 loss to host Woodlawn.

The Cougars held an 11-9 opening quarter lead but Woodlawn came back to lead 22-17 at half then had a 15-8 third period run and held South Central scoreless in the final quarter with a 15-0 run.

G. Owens tallied 22 for the winners and was the lone Woodlawn player in double digits.

South Central was led by Bret Harmeier, a 5-foot-11 freshman, with 10 points.

In the opening game of the evening, Cisne downed Red Hill (Bridgeport) 41-28.

The championship game is scheduled Friday at 7:30 p.m. between North Clay and Cisne.
