T-town, WSS, Dieterich Claim Girls Basketball Wins

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School handed Altamont a rare defeat in girls basketball Tuesday evening, 54-45.

 

Altamont stepped out to a 15-12 opening quarter lead as Mary Guse knocked in two three-pointers and Brooke Runge tallied five points.

But the Wooden Shoes came back with a tough 16-5 second period run to lead 28-20 at halftime. Six Wooden Shoes players scored in the second quarter.

T-town had a 40-30 lead going into the final period. Altamont outscored the Shoes 15-14 but T-town connected on six of seven free throws in the final period for the win.

Olivia Niemerg led the Shoes with 18 points while six other players contributed points. T-town hit 14 of 16 free throws. Niemerg and Ciara Roepke had two assists each. Niemerg and Kaitlyn Schumacher had two steals each.

Altamont was led by Ellie McManaway with 13 points and Rachel Jackman with 11. The Indians fall to 22-5 on the season.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg picked up a non-conference victory over Oblong, 52-30 in Tuesday evening play.

The Hatchets stepped out to a 14-7 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 30-15 at halftime.

Mikala Nichols tallied 20 points for the winners while Hannah Hayes chipped in with 12.

At Sandoval

Dieterich claimed a 66-45 non-conference victory over Sandoval in girls basketball action Tuesday.

The Movin' Maroons held a 20-11 opening quarter lead and led 36-22 at halftime. Sandoval came back with a 17-15 third period but Dieterich finished out strong. The Maroons connected on 

Four players hit double digits for Dieterich. Kaitlyn Boerngen led the way with 14 while Emma Meinhart added 11, Madilyn Brummer 10 and Andrea Bierman 10.

Sandoval had two players in double figures, Andrews with 14 and Dailey with 10.

At Pana

Newton High School fell to host Pana, 60-24 in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening.

The Panthers held a 16-5 opening quarter lead and led 34-10 at hafltime.

Whitney Zumbahlen led the Eagles in scoring with eight points and pulled down five rebounds. Brooke Jansen and Eliza Bierman had two assists each.

Newton drops to 18-8 on the season. The Eagles will be back in action Thursday hosting Olney. This will be Senior Night and Pack the Place Night.

The Eagles fell in the junior varsity contest, 45-13.
