Altamont Moves Into Final Four at NTC Girls Tourney

BEECHER CITY -- Altamont High School moved into the final four at the National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament.

The Indians handily downed South Central, 76-25 in action Wednesday evening.

Five players reached double digits for the Indians in even scoring. Allyson Hardiek tallied 16 to lead the way followed by Rachel Jackman with 15, Mary Guse with 14, Brooke Runge with 12 and Ellie McManaway with 10.

The Indians stepped out to a 16-8 opening quarter lead then pushed that into the win column with a 29-6 second period.

Altamont, the top seed, will now meet fifth-seeded Effingham St. Anthony at 7 p.m. today 

South Central was led by Halle Smith with seven points.

In consolation bracket action, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg downed Dieterich, 41-31.

Both teams tallied five points in the opening quarter. The Hatchets moved ahead 15-10 at halftime. Dieterich came back with a 16-11 third period to tie the score at 26-26. WSS put the game into the victory column with a 15-5 final period.

The Hatchets were led by Mikala Nichols with 18 points and Hannah Hayes with 10. WSS will now face North Clay (Louisville) tonight at 5:30 for the right to advance to the consolation championship.

Dieterich was led by Emma Meinhart with 11. The Movin' Maroons move into the seventh place contest Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Neoga then handed South Central its second loss of the evening by a 51-39 count.

The Cougars held a 13-11 opening quarter lead but Neoga moved ahead 26-20 at halftime. The Indians then had a 25-19 second half.

Kylee Phillips led Neoga with 17 points while Audrey Ramert chipped in with 11 and Olivia Titus with 10. Neoga moved into the consolation championship game against either North Clay of Windsor/Stras. Those two teams play tonight.

South Central was led by Laney Webster with 10. The Cougars drop into the fifth place contest against Dieterich at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Tonight's games find North Clay against Windsor/Stew-Stras at 5:30, Altamont taking on St. Anthony at 7 and Brownstown/St. Elmo meeting Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 8:30.
