S. Central, CHBC, BSE, St. A Claim NTC Girls Tourney Wins

BEECHER CITY -- South Central, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, Brownstown/St. Elmo and Effingham St. Anthony all claimed victories in opening round play of the National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

South Central opened the evening with a 48-40 win over Dieterich.

The Cougars trailed Dieterich 13-5 after the opening quarter and 24-19 at halftime. South Central then had a 29-16 second half for the win.

Laney Webster led the Cougars with 10 points. Dieterich was led by Emma Meinhart with 16.

In the second contest, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 48-41.

CHBC took a 31-17 halftime lead. WSS came back with a 24-17 second half run only to fall short.

CHBC was led by Jaelyn Robertson with 17 points and Lauren Wojcik with 10.

WSS was led by Hannah Hayes with 22.

Brownstown/St. Elmo claimed a 53-38 victory over North Clay (Louisville).

BSE had three players hit double digits. Olivia Campbell led the way with 18 points while Claire Wilhour pitched in with 15 and Audrey Wilhour 12.

North Clay was led by Lovett with 18 and Czyzewski with 14.

BSE held a 24-21 halftime lead then had a 21-9 third quarter.

The final contest went to St. Anthony over Neoga, 60-49. The Bulldogs led 26-20 at halftime. Neoga came back with a 23-16 third period to pull ahead 43-42 but the Bulldogs got back on track with an 18-6 final quarter.

Riley Guy tallied 27 for the winners while Lucy Fearday added 19.

Neoga was led by Olivia Titus with 18 and Kylee Phillips with 10.

The tournament continues Wednesday with Altamont facing South Central at 5:30, Windsor/Stew-Stras against Dieterich at 7 and South Central taking on Neoga at 8:30.
