SALEM -- Effingham and Salem split victories in freshman/sophomore boys basketball competition Thursday evening.

The Wildcats won the freshman game, 64-43. Salem took a 31-14 halftime lead and never looked back.

Effingham was led by Donaldson and Estrada with nine points each.

In the sophomore contest, the Hearts ran off to a 24-10 opening quarter lead and that was the big catalyst.

EHS was led by Volpi with 14 points.

At Louisville

Altamont picked up two victories over North Clay (Louisville) in freshman/sophomore action Thursday.

Altamont won the first contest, 48-44. North Clay held the early lead 13-9 after the opening quarter but Altamont came back to lead 24-18 at halftime. North Clay rallied in the final period with a 16-14 run only to fall short.

Altamont was led by Mason Robinson with 12 points while Kollman added 12.

North Clay was led by Collyn Ballard with 16.

In the second contest, Altamont was a 41-26 winner. The Indians held a 22-14 halftime lead.

N. Shepard and Sloan scored seven points each for the winners as 11 players scored.

North Clay was led by Smith with eight points.
