EHS Falls In Conference, CHBC Downs Dieterich

MAHOMET -- Effingham High School dropped an Apollo Conference loss to Mahomet-Seymour in girls basketball competition Tuesday evening.

The Hearts held a 17-16 opening quarter lead as Taylor Armstrong nailed three baskets for six points while Hayley Diveley knocked in two three-pointers, also for six.

But the Bulldogs came roaring back with a 17-8 second period for a 33-25 halftime lead. Mahomet-Seymour led by 10 going into the final quarter and both teams played to a 12-12 final period. Effingham just had that one rough quarter.

EHS was led by Armstrong with 14 points and Diveley tallied 11. Annie Frost chipped in with nine.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City stepped out to a 20-5 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 52-22 win over Dieterich in National Trail Conference action Wednesday.

The Bobcats led 35-7 at halftime and had a 15-9 third quarter. CHBC improved to 3-1 in the conference, 13-3 overall.

Jaelyn Robertson tallied 17 to lead the way while Carsen Burks added 15. Robertson led in rebounds with six. Sydney Lorton led in steals with four.

Dieterich was led by Brooke Locey with seven points.

CHBC claimed the junior varsity contest, 51-26 to improve to 5-1.
