Effingham Junior High School split boys basketball victories with Marshall Monday evening.

The seventh-grade squad picked up a 46-27 win. The Mustangs took a 29-17 halftime lead.

Belcher led EJHS with 21 points while Pals chipped in with 13. The Mustangs improve to 4-9.

In eighth-grade competition, Marshall pulled out a 41-36 win over Effingham, outscoring the Mustangs 13-5 in the final period.

Effingham held a 23-19 halftime lead and led 31-28 going into the final period.

Fox led the Mustangs with 17 points.

At St. Anthony

Altamont Lutheran handed Effingham St. Anthony a 43-31 eighth-grade loss in boys basketball Monday evening.

Altamont Lutheran edged out to a 13-11 opening quarter lead and led 22-17 halftime lead. ALIS had a 21-14 second half.

Elam tallied 14 for the winners while McManaway chipped in with nine.

Effingham was led by Roepke with 15.

At Dieterich

Dieterich and Jasper County picked up a win each in action Monday evening.

Dietreich was a winner in seventh-grade competition, 43-35. Dieterich held a one point lead at halftime then had a 24-17 second half.

Westendorf tallied 12 points while Will added nine for the winners.

Jasper County was led by Lain Burgener with 19. The seventh-grade squad dropped to 3-10.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County tallied a 57-49 victory. Dieterich led 18-16 after the opening quarter and 31-24 at halftime. Jasper County came back with a 17-6 third quarter to lead 41-37 going into the final period then finished out strong.

Caden Nichols scored 27 points while Parker Wolf had 14 for the winners. Dieterich was led by Gephart with 19 points.

Jasper County now sports a 7-6 eighth-grade record.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and North Clay (Louisville) split victories Monday evening.

In the seventh-grade game, North Clay captured a 39-22 victory. North Clay held a 24-6 halftime lead.

L. Groves led the way for North Clay with 13 points while Hardiek and Zimdars added eight each.

CHBC was led by Ernie Villar with eight points as the team dropped to 8-7 overall.

In eighth-grade play, CHBC went double overtime to pull out a 37-35 win over North Clay.

North Clay led 23-20 going into the final period. CHBC came back to knot the score at 31-31 sending the game into overtime. Both teams tallied four in the first overtime. CHBC's Jaxon Manley scored the lone basket in the second overtime as CHBC pulled out the win.

Zander Merrfield led CHBC with 10 points while Carson Evans had eight. CHBC improved to 7-5.

North Clay was led by Weidner with 11 and Wells with 10.

Stewardson-Strasburg and Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond split wins in Monday evening action.

Stew-Stras claimed the seventh-grade contest, 32-14. Stew-Stras held a 19-9 opening half lead then had a 5-0 third quarter run.

Gurgel tallied 14 for the winners while Morris added 10. Stew-Stras improved to 14-3.

In eighth-grade play, ALAH was a 39-22 winner. Leading 20-12 at halftime, ALAH had a 19-10 second half.

Stew-Stras was led by Bridges with six points. The squad dropped to 4-10 on the season.
