Shoes Second, Hearts Fourth at CHS Girls Tourney

CHARLESTON --Teutopolis High School finished second while Effingham was fourth at the Charleston Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

T-town fell in the championship game to Paris, 44-35 in overtime. The Wooden Shoes took an 11-6 opening quarter lead and led 19-16 at halftime.

The Tigers came back with an 8-5 third period to tie the score at 24-24. Then in the final quarter both teams tallied nine points, sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, Paris' Ridgden went to work, nailing a three-pointer and connecting on four of four free throws while Isaf hit two free throws and Krabel nailed a basket.

The Shoes only points came from the free throw line as Lexie Niebrugge put in two. Niebrugge finished as the lone Wooden Shoes player in double figures with 13. Niebrugge connected on one three-pointer and was 10 of 12 at the line.

Paris was led by Isaf with 17 and Rigden with 15.

Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin captured third place over Effingham, 45-25. Zipping out to a 10-3 opening quarter lead, Sacred Heart-Griffen led 16-12 at halftime. The Hearts pulled within 26-23 going into the final quarter but SHG had a 12-2 run for the 20-point victory.

The Hearts were led by Sawyer Althoff with six points. EHS drops to 7-7 on the season.

In the other games, Charleston won on forfeit over Cairo for seventh place and Tri-County defeated Danville 59-52 for fifth place.

Two Teutopolis players made the All-Tournament Team, Ciara Roepke and Olivia Niemerg.
